I personally find it tacky....Spaceship Earth without the gimmicks had a much greater visual impact.

so we're left with just:

I don't know.

The first time I ever saw it was with the arm and wand, so it's special to me. But I can understand why people don't like it.

I'm torn about it, I at first didn't like it, but have grown fond of it after a while. Just as long as they keep the ride inside in tact, I would be okay one way or the other. The rumor is they are going to remove it.

I think the arm and wand should absolutely come down.

....and while they're at it, they should move those Leave a Legacy slabs somewhere too.

I miss the clean look of the old entrance area.

I remember seeing Epcot for the first time in April 89 and was very impressed by Spaceship Earth. The arm and wand look like an add on and take away from the beauty of it, IMO. I can't believe that Disney's imagineers can't come up with something better.

Take the wand away and take down the stupid sorcer mickey hat at MGM while you're at it!

And since we're changing things - please bring back Horizons..... :*(

I don't like change. :)

I would prefer to see it go. It's not as bad as when they turned the castle into that hideous pink birthday cake, but I'd like to see it in it's original form.

I like it! I've seen it many times without the wand and many with. I prefer it with the wand. I never understood the visual aspect of the giant golfball anyway. It is far from beautiful. At least it looks cool with the arm and wand.

I like it, too. Disney is a bit over the top, but I don't consider it tacky at all.

I've only ever seen it with the wand, and I like it that way. I don't think they should change it. However, I don't have a clue what they were thinking when they put the Sorcerer hat in MGM. It doesn't even have a purpose! All it is is a pin shop inside, and Lord knows that could be put elsewhere. That is a major thumbs down.

I like it. Without the wand it looks like a giant golf ball of no distinction, except for it's size.

It's subjective. I do see the architectural beauty in it. It always took my breath away and made my heart beat a little faster.

Some people might think the Tree of Life would look amazing covered in lights during the holidays, but I would find that appalling.

Hmmmm. I guess since I don't generaly care for change, I'd say take it down. But it doesn't bother me all that much either.

But I've never understood why people hate the hat at MGM so much. I think it's fine.

I have to add that I also like the hat at MGM.

I vote remove it.

From Mr. Banks Disney Imagineer

Once upon a time there was an Epcot Center in Florida that had a sleek untarnished Geodesic Sphere at its entrance. It was a spartan, simple and singularly proud statement.

Once the year 2000 hit a giant Mickey Arm was installed beside it with the year 2000 emblazoned across the top. All signs pointed to only a single years run. But, no, somewhere somehow the bureaucrats in control decided to throw the words Epcot up there and it's been there ever since. It has since come to symbolize everything that's wrong with the Disney Parks. It's cheap, it's tawdry, it's out of place, it's cynical, loud and loathsome.

Chapters could be written on exactly why this is such a catastrophic mess but for now I'll only bring up one idea. Look at the original picture of Spaceship Earth and the palm tree plantings. Immediately viewers register a sense of scale. This deceptively simple structure is huge, towering well past the trees. Throw that Mickey Hand up and all sense of scale is tossed.

For the new forces that will come into being at Imagineering: Please, get rid of this monstrosity. It's an easy first fix and will send the right message. Epcot Center is a showcase for future progress, not a cynical cheap carny funfair interested in merely selling more Mickey Plush. And for the record, Mickey never wielded a wand in the Sorcerer's Apprentice either.

I wish they would remove it. I can't stand it... I love the original. It was so beautiful at night all lit up w/o that tacky hand!

As for the hat at MGM. There is nothing wrong with the hat itself. The fact that it is blocking the Chinese Theater is what I find horrid. I wish they would move it to the entrance of the park or something. Just let me see that pretty theater again ::yes::
