Should Tattoos be illegal for people under 21?

So many kids ( from 18-21) I know are getting tattoos. Not small little ones on their ankles, or lower back, but big huge tattoos on their arms, neck and chest. In my opinion they are making a terrible mistake.

First of all I think they are getting a tattoo because it is CURRENTLY hip. Alot of their friends are getting one and to "fit in" they are following along. Tattoos are hip with the show business Hollywood types and they have a significant impact on young minds.

In my opinion, no one under 21 is mature enough to make a decision that will effect how they look for the rest of their lives. What do you think?

Umm... if the law says 18 why change it? You are legal at that point... and there isn't a *single soul* I know who has gotten a tattoo because it is "hip"
Sorry but a tattoo is a totally personal decision one makes... I can't say it is a fad at all because it is permanent... and on you for life.
And I know many 18 year olds who are *far* more mature than many "adults" out there

I think 18 is fine. I think if you can be tried as an adult at 18, you should be able to decide if you want a tatoo at 18.

JMHO!

No, I don't think it should be illegal til 21 but I do wish they would better enforce the must be 18 rule.

If you can smoke, drive, get married and go off to the military at age 18, I see no reason why you can not get a tattoo.

I know a lot of people who have gotten tattoos because they are trendy and hip right now and most of them, IMO, will regret it when they are older. But they were legal adults when they made the choice and they have to live that choice the rest of their lives.

I personally think there are a lot worse things kids could be doing than getting tattoos.

So, then, are you for raising the age of enlistment to 21? Because if an 18 yr old isn't mature enough to decide how they look, then certainly they can't possibly be mature enough to decide if they should put themselves in harm's way and possibly die?

Chronological age does not always mean maturity; in some instances, it just provides more substantiation of Darwin's theory of "survival of the fittest."

At 18 in most states you are legally an adult and thus entitled to make decisions for yourself, including permanently marking your body. I see nothing wrong with that. Their body; their choice.
