I will be leaving in 2 weeks with my DH and were staying at AKL, but we only have a standard room.....But for about $12 more a night we could upgrade to Concierge with the savanna view, but is it really worth it to upgrade?? We wont be in the room that much but I though it would be nice to upgrade. Please Help

Only $12/night to up-grade from standard to savannah view, concierge? I'd grab that offer! Just the view is worth it. And then add on the food...go for it! :)

12.00?

It is WAY worth it and you would be insane not to jump at the chance... breakfast every day, drinks if you want them during the day, hot & cold appetizers and wine if you happen to be around between 5-7pm... desserts and corials later... the use of the lounge, turndown service in the evenings with chocolates, and a Savanna view. No need to check in or out in the regular lines and an opportunity to do the sunrise safari if you are interested.

Quick...make the change while you still have time :)

Stampede to the conceirge, go, go , go. We had a deluxe savannah room and only saw animal butts so if we had the food for only the extra amount i would have jumped on it. unfortunately due to our horrible experience we dont do akl anymore.

WOW!! What a great deal I would definitely jump on that!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I was just curious as to how you got such a great rate, when I asked a couple of weeks ago about upgrading to conceirge it was going to be an additional $1000.00 for our 7 night stay.

If you dont mind me asking....What was your horrible experience?:o

I too would like to know where the great upgrade rate came from. How did you find out about it?

Would love an upgrade offer like that. When I booked with AP rate there was a difference of $150 from standard to savannal for 3 nights. Took savannal because this may be my only stay at AKL and I really want to sit on the balcony and watch the animals. Hope it is worth the extra now that I see some people saying they didn't really have that great a view even with savannah.

Please tell...

Disneygurl....how did can you upgrade from standard to conceirge for $12.00/night??

luvmarypoppins...what was your bad experience??

Thank You all for your help!! I did switch!! I got this deal because when I was there in May, I had a problem with a CM during check in and I just had so many problems so I called and I told them about the problem, and that I was gonna be coming back to at AKL in september, and they said they would add on a conceirge for $12 more a night...So that is my story of how I got it that cheap! ;)

Here was our bad expereince, it was only 3 days and it was after we were at the poly and beach club.
First we paid for a deluxe savannah room. I got each of our 3 dss a disposable camera for picture taking from the balcony and binoculars for viewing. Our room was so far away from the elevators etc. We were I believe on the 4th floor. All we ever saw were animal butts. The only animals that ever came to our area only came when they bought the feed truck around. They never free roamed as they said. they had to be brought there with food bribes. No matter what time of the day or night we looked out the balcony we saw maybe a cattle or 2 or something far off in the distance. The couple next to us were from england and we had a joke on the balcony as my dh would shout something like come on ranger bob and bring the food truck because I have paid lots of money to see these animal butts. They laughed so loud. We did complain about our view and they said they had only rooms left closer to the pool and that it would actually be a downgrade for us, not an upgrade. the cm was rather rude as was the bellman. He said oh the family does not like their room view, well for the almost $300 per night we paid for that place I wanted to like it. She Cm said, oh do you know how many people complain about their room view.
One day there were dirty towels left behind the bathroom door and never cleaned obviously.
Room very dark but know this is the atmosphere.
Ice machine broke and nearest one was a mile away lol. I knew at that time the mousekeeper heard me say something in the hall and she did agree to get me some ice, I politely declined.
Going to swim the dss were being attacked by tons of mosquitoes, this was at night and we decided to retreat to the room instead of being constantly attacked by the critters.
DH had a business meeting with someone and we were all eating. I had to excuse myself from Bomas because I got food poisoning from something I ate there. I was up in the room sick for hours.
We went into the gift shop and they told us the craftsman will talk to you etc. The guy refused to interact or speak to us and dss were intently watching what he was doing.
During storytime outside my ds said it was boring and he has heard these things before, o.k. that might have been true as we have friends who have lived in africa. Little ds kept up the mantra of take me back to the poly , take me back to the poly etc.
At the mara I burnt my mouth on the spices of the sugar caned chicken and dh had to get me about 6 cokes to take care of it. oh also the cm apologized for us waiting so long for our food, she lost our order, huh?
Inquired about childrens activites and all I saw was cookie baking, sorry 3 dss were not interested.
Dss were drooling when we walked back to our room on the same floor as the elevator people had their room doors open and were shouting oh look we see a giraffee etc. Well let me tell you that was not us for sure!!!
But guess what on our last day we had to get up at 5:30 am to meet the mears guy (never again) and low and behold what do we see in the public viewing window as we are dragging our tired bodies out the ak lodge, well if it isn't 2 giraffess that we come face to face with, gee too bad we are in a sleepy fog and our cameras are packed up etc. Well just when I thought the nightmare was over we had to make about 4 more stops to pick up all the other mears people, wow its the honeymoon couple from cs who tells us he got food poisioning too and laid in bed the last 2 days, wait its not over yet next comes a grandma and grandpa from carribean beach. Oh no, grandpa is in a wheelchair with a cast. Grandpa tells us he has broken his arm getting into the disney bus during a rainstorm. Tells us his son is a lawyer in california. Oh gee. will this nightmare end, yes very soon, we are finally at MCO. Good bye disney. Next time we will not be at the akl or in a mears van. Happy to report our trips since then have been pretty magical.

Whoa! I'm just curious, how long ago did this take place? Hope your next vacation is better!

Wow!! What a crazy trip, Ihope i can see animals from my balcony and not just there butts! (LOL) :( ;)

GeekChic this was august 2001 I think. THe guy we were having dinner with just went to bomas again and said all was well. That is an inside joke he has with dh after our incident. He is a DVC member anyway and goes alot. I hope things have improved there. I really havent read any horror story posts. I would go and try and eat there maybe again but not stay there.

We just got back tonight from AKL concierge. Request a room on zebra trail. We had room 5431 and saw tons of animal. It was awesome !!!!! Oh, and if you can upgrade...do it!!!
We absolutely loved it. Let me know if you have any questions.

dansyr.. welcome back :)

Glad you had a great time at AKL... we were on the Zebra Trail too and I found it handy to the elevators that go down to the pool.

Last time we stayed on Kudu... is was farther away but it was gorgeous walking across that rope bridge everytime.

Are you going to be doing a report for us??

>>^..^<<

We had an absolutely wonderful time. I will be posting a report within the next couple of days. Right now, I am still trying to recover from the trip.....and talk to dbf into letting plan the next one...lol
