Should I try a surprise?

I just hope DH doesn't check this. I don't think he has time to, so I'm crossing my fingers

Anyway... DH and I both really want to go to WDW. With the house, we didn't think that's possible. But, I just found out about our Christmas bonus... which would be enough to fund a budget trip to WDW, or about $200 short of funding our usual type of trip. I knew it was coming, but not exactly how much.

So, I'm thinking of surprising DH with a trip to WDW. But at the same time, he knew we would be getting a bonus because he had to factor that in to our house paperwork (I swear they wanted you to estimate even how much change you'd find on the street  ) So there's a chance he's already got plans for that money.

So... should I try surprising him, or just tell him about the bonus and suggest a trip, or what? I'm also debating between December, when it would be tough for either of us to get off but when we'd be able to see the Christmas stuff, or early January for our anniversary.

I know Luis would kill me if I tried to do something like that. So if it were me, I wouldn't make it a surprise. I would tell about the money and suggest a trip and see if he goes for it. That's just me though :)

Hmmm - DH did as much "surprising" as he knows he can without my knowledge. He did come checking around, made some phone calls, and presented me with a spreadsheet outlining all costs for our December trip. He titled it, "Because I Know We Would Love it in Winter." It was very sweet, and of course I caved (sorry, no new living room furniture this Christmas). And you know we just got back from our trip at the beginning of Sept! Maybe handle it that way. As for choosing December or Jan.... just pick whatever would be more special for you. We honeymooned at WDW (duh) so our last trip was a combined Bday/anniv. trip - it was very special. But, we are soooo looking forward to our Dec. trip and doing MCMCP, the CP, and MGM's lights. Gee, I hope I didn't just make that decision harder!

I have to say that it would never work in our family either.

Neither one of us spends that amount of money without a husband/wife discussion on what the best use of funds would be.

A surprise would be absolutely wonderful, but if he has specific financial plans for the bonus, then it would be "uh oh"

Since you are not certain what he has planned, I would tell him about the bonus and suggest a trip.

JMO.

When my husband and I bought our first house, we hardly had enough pennies to rub together to put food on the table, let alone take a trip to Disney World.

During those early years, if I had been given an unexpected windfall of money, I likely would have used it to sock away in the bank for a rainy day. You really never know when you might need some extra cash for those unexpected house repairs that always seem to come up.

That being said, all large expenses are always discussed between myself and my husband first.

I'd be thrilled enough just to get the bonus... I personally don't count anything unless its in my hot little hands...

The saver that I am.. would save it.. you never know when the roof goes, or the fridge dies, or something like that.

If it is something you're pretty sure he would want to do anyway, and the money isn't already earmarked for something else, I say surprise him!!!!

I'm with TF on this one. I would be a little peeved if my husband spent that amount of money without discussing it with me first.

I would tell him and enjoy planning the trip together :)

I decided not to surprise him. I would have liked to have done it as a surprise, but his schedule is just so hard to work around that finding a week when he could go without him knowing he was going was going to be impractical. So I told him about it. :)

Well, what did he say? Are you going to WDW????

All he said so far is "Enticing..."

Then Lili started bearing down on us (before turning) and we didn't have enough time to discuss it.

OOOh! I love a good cliffhanger!

ROFL!! I do, too... when I'm not the one waiting for the answer! LOL!

I'm leaning toward going during our anniversary instead of December. No classes to worry about, schedules a little better (I think), gives me a little more time to work up some vacation time...

But at the same time, I would LOVELOVELOVE to go during the Christmas season again.

You'll just have to come over and sit through the hours and hours of video I will film during our holiday in the World.

I'd put in our hours and hours of video...

...if I could find where we packed them  ;)

The great "Where's That One Small Item" derby. Aren't large cardboard boxes and moving house grand?

No kidding! I'm also on the hunt for my trip report notebook because I never did finish writing last year's October report and would like to finish that! I'm about to re-read what I did write and see just how good my memory is.... who knows, I might remember what happened next ;)

Writing a trip report sounds like a good way to feed the Disneyworld addiction since we can't go this month and probly not this year ;)

Um, yeah, I think that report is overdue. A bit. Let me know when you finally do it so I can read it!
