Traveling to WDW over Thanksgiving with 2 adults the kids (5,2 and infant)
(I'm crazy I know):scared: right now Im booked at POR, Im so torn if I should switch to FQ?
Here is my plan, we are driving in so I am thinking with kids being as young as ours we are going to drive to the parks,so as not to deal with bus lines , holding the double stroller ect.

We will prob spend afternoons at the hotel for naps, prob wont use the sit down restaraunt but just cs and snacks. I am just afraid that were going to be overwhelmed by the size of POR, all the walking in the parks, will it be a nightmare at the resort? The main place we will walking to is the foodcourt, and yeah I requested the close buildings and all that , but last year at Pop I also requested a close building , faxed , called and begged at check in and still got put in the farthest building away so I dont count on anything.

Any advice greatly appreciated, also sounds strange , but from the pics Riverside looks awesome from the outside, but the rooms at FQ look nicer any opinions?

Have never stayed at POR, but all members of my family - me, dh, dd9 & 11, absolutely LOVED French Quarter. It was quiet, small, all main amenities were within easy walking distance. The room was perfect. A few issues with mousekeeping, but nothing significant enough to complain about. The NICEST people in the world. Here are some pics:

You will love this resort!

We just returned a few weeks ago from POR and when we checked in I thought our room sounded far away (bldg 38). It really wasn't!! It's not THAT spread out! Aligator Bayou has trundle beds so you can fit 5.

Im going back to WDW in May with my mom and we're booked at POFQ and Im afraid I won't like it as much as I liked POR. Loved the whole atmosphere of POR! It was a beautiful resort!

You can always ask at check in to be placed as close to the main bldg as possible if you're that worried.

Having your own car is a good thing as my only complaint about POR was the packed busses.

Stay with your current reservation... you'll love it! And you can visit POFQ's pool too since they're sister resorts!

It's not THAT far from any building at POR to the main pool and the food court area. (Sorry, my soapbox = people are so afraid to walk more than 20 steps <over reacting I know>)

I think that with 3 kids and your own car, you'll be just as happy if not happier at POR. Go, enjoy, relax...
Don't forget, POR has quiet pools conveniently located in each mini-area AND there are coin laundries at the quiet pools.

I couldn't agree more!! :thumbsup2

Either resort is Wonderful in it's own way.
I don't think you will be disappointed with staying at either
of these resorts. :thumbsup2

We stayed in Mansion section and
it did not seem long at all to walk anywhere.

I did not get to wonder around the AB section
so I can't comment on that.
All the Families that I spoke to while visiting loved POR.

We have stayed at both and it's just my personal opinion but I really like POFQ much more than POR. I think the benefit of POFQ's small size isn't the fact that all bldgs are close to the pool or the main bldg. since your at WDW and your going to be walking countless miles throughout the day anyway. The benefits of it's small size to me are the less hectic food court and the quite, relaxed atmosphere of the resort in general.:wave2:

When we were at FQ in April we had alot of problems. There was mold in the bathroom, pieces of the tile were chipped and broken, our TV in our room didn't work right and it took the front desk almost 3 days for them to correct that. We were not impressed by this resort in the very least and I will not go back there under any circumstances.

The buses/ shuttles are a real headache as well, as they are shared between riverside and FQ. Usually FQ lets off first....I say usually- but not always. We had a few occasions where we had to wait until all 4 or 5 stops of Riverside let off and then finally dropped off FQ. My advice with the buses- leave early especially if you need to be someplace on time.

The concierge workers were extremely rude as well....not just one time but on numerous occasions.

If you decide to try it, I hope you have a better experience than we did.

wow, I am sorry you had such a bad experience at FQ. We have stayed there 4 times and have never had any of those issues. I guess you just got a bad room.

For the OP, I love POFQ for the smaller resort. It's not quite as hectic in the lobby and the food court area. Although I have never stayed at POR, we have visited it many times. I am sure you will be happy no matter where you stay.

Just got back Sunday from another great trip to WDW via the FQ. DH and I love the FQ beacuse of the smaller size. We have never had a problem with the front desk, mousekeeping (I do leave them a daily tip in a labeled envelope) and all of the CM's have been friendly and helpful...right down to the bartenders at the pool bar.
We also love the FQ because of Elliot Dyson at the Scat Cat Lounge. He's a great entertainer and plays a mean sax too. If you stay at POR, it's worth a walk to the FQ some evening just to see Elliot. He performs Wed.-Sat.

PS... love the boat to DTD, which is accessable from POR and FQ.

Count me in as one that love POFQ too. It's not just the small size of it. It has it's own bus stop at MK in the evening. Also, the buses stop there first coming and going to the parks.
