Should I splurge on 2 Pal Mickeys?

I really don't know what to do......


My boys 11 and 4 are really really excited about Disney. Pal Mickeys look awfully cute and would probably help in long lines, but the cost ! $50 for one is reasonable if it'll keep them happy and it would be a nice souvenier, but 2 of them may be too much. I could really use some advice right about now. Thanks.

I wouldn't buy two. I'm sure your boys share some things at home and in life. It's an important part of life and growing up. And the good part is if they fight over him or don't go be the rules you set---you get to have Mickey all to your self!

That looks like a win-win to me!

Hi,

I just heard about the Pal Mickey too. My boys will be 5 and 10 when we get there. I think they look fun as well. This was my question as well, 1 or 2? Anyhow, I found something today, a "magicial moments game" for $20 they sell in the parks (I believe). It is a "gameboy" type game that has many different games on it. The games are turned on at the different rides in different parks.

This sounds fun and certainly more affordable, plus they will have something to play with in the car on the long ride back home. Anyone have experience with these?

I understand a Cinderella Castle game is available immediately for the kids to play with.

We went at Christmas and didn't find waiting in lines as bad as we had expected, but something like this to pass the time would be great. Small too, as mom I get to carry everything.

Bought only one Pal Mickey last May and DD8 and DS5 shared it . You'll definately want to get one - they are great.

LoriZH - just found my review of Pal Mickey from last May. Hope this helps.

Pal Mickey Review
We bought one for DS5. It is great. Both DD7 and DS had fun with him.
He is a smallish (about 12 inch) stuff toy that is interactive.
He shakes when he has something to say, and it is something interesting about the attraction you are near or at.
Also he tells jokes and plays games (there are three different games)
From the instructions that came with him:
"Mickey will giggle and shake when he has something important to tell you. Just squeeze one of his hands or press his tummy (within 15 seconds) to hear what he has to say. Pal Mickey has over 700 different fun and helpful things to say while you explore the Parks."
"It's really easy to ask Mickey to repeat what he just said. He'll repeat it (up to 5 times) if you just squeeze on of his hands or press his tummy within 15 seconds"
"Whenever you are with Pal Mickey, he's always ready with a funny joke or fun fact. Anytime you want Pal Mickey to talk, simply squeeze one of his hand or touch his tummy."
The three games Mickey plays are:
1. "That isn't here" game - Mickey will say the name of one of the four WDW Theme Parks and then list places and things that are found inthe Park. If the place or thing is in Epcot squeeze one of Mickey's hands to score a point. If the place or thing is not in that park, then squeeze Mickey's tummy. You will only have a few seconds to answer and you get less time as you go along!
2. "Fast Friends" game - Mickey's going to say the names of one or two of his "special friends". Then, he'll tell you which hand to squeeze to score a point when he says that special friend's name. For example Mickey might say "Squeeze my right hand when I say Goofy" Then the game starts. Mickey will list 5 of his friends. If Mickey lists a friend that was not one of these "special friends" squeeze his tummy to score a point (more......)
3. "Mickey says" game. Just like simon says.

We found that just playing with him kept the kids happy when waiting in lines, etc.

I will admit he is a little hard to hear (I had to hold him up to my ear) but I'm sure that is so people won't go mad hearing Mickey chattering all day long.

He comes with a clip to clip him to a belt, but found it wasn't great. DD held him outward most of the time and he worked fine.

You can purchase these at most resort gift shops (not at Swan/Dolphin as of yet) Also I see they now have them at the parks. I'm sure you'll be able to get them anywhere soon.

IMO - well worth the $50., plus DD and DS like playing with him at home too. Great thing is you can bring him back next trip and apparently they will updating information.

Oops nevermind I just did a search and found the magical moments game at mouseshoppe.com for $26.00, looks pretty cool. Does anyone know if this is available at the parks for sure?

Start out buying one pal mickey and see how it goes for a day or 2. The older child might not want it or the younger one might see something else he would rather have. If they both love it and all they do is fight, then maybe its worth an extra $50.00 for some peace & quiet. I went through the same thing years ago when my twin girls were young. God forbid I didn't buy 2 of everything. They didn't know wht the word "share" meant.....Thinking back...I shouldn't have given in...but who could hear the whining and crying......

My husband and I even had fun searching the park for the activation points that make the games start. Granted, the detail is not anywhere near gameboy, but for $26, it's well worth it. My boys spent all their time in lines playing it and here we are, a year later and they still play it all the time! Definitely invest! It's GREAT! Oh, and we bought ours at one of the gift shops in MK, near Mickey's House, but I bet you can find them at any of the big shops.

Is there is some way that you could designate ownership of Pal Mickey as being yours (but you will share with your 2 DS's alternating days or whatever)? I bought Pal Mickey in May and have had two trips with him. On the downside, I had trouble hearing him and had to make him repeat just about everything. He was not the font of knowledge that I was hoping for (I was hoping for LOTS of ride information--but, did not get any tips for short lines). On our last trip in July, the last few days I just left him in my room so as not to carry him around all day.

Pal Mickey is very cute and I like him. I was thinking that I might not mind carrying him around so much if I were pushing a stroller (he could ride, after all ). I am glad I bought him and I will be bringing him back in November to test him out some more. He also tells corny jokes anytime you want to hear one. But if you buy two, you may end up really wishing you only bought one.

Weluvbuzz, you totally sold me on it! lol I actually was telling my dh about it last night at dinner and thought it sounded pretty cool too. I guess I'll wait till we get down there to buy it, once less thing to bring on the way down. Thanks a lot! OBTW, my boys LOVE game boy and PS2. Thanks!

To disneyluvers, I think that DCfromVA has the right idea. Just buy the one and say it's yours but they can play with it. Or, just say that Mickey bought it for them to share and that they need to take turns or it has to go back. I am going to just buy one of the magical moments games, I don't see the need for two, my boys are 6yo twins and they share (let's hope I don't eat those words!) They have disney dollars they can spend so if they don't share, then they can purchase a second one with their money. I just don't want to be lugging around two games in the parks, keeping my fingers crossed it works.

We bought a Pal Mickey on our trip in June. He was wonderful We all had so much fun with him. I have 3 children: DS12, DD8 and DD5. We only bought one and it was truly enough. At first they all wanted him however that ended rather quickly with all the other entertainment surrounding them. My oldest DS did like the interesting info Mickey had to offer however he was not into carrying him around. Trust me, by the end of the 1st day you will be the one holding on to Mickey. He is easy to keep up with and attaches to a belt loop or fanny pack. You won't even know he is there until he lets out a little giggle and vibrates. Well worth the 50 bucks. We can't wait to bring him back in February. He sort of became part of the family and was in all the pictures. Gotta love him He was very helpful in letting you know about parades and great places to sit and if any of the characters were coming out and where. Sort of like he was letting you in on little secrets, it was DISNEY MAGIC at its best.
