Should I send him to school the day we fly??

My 6 year old son will be in Kindergarten when we go to Disney World in October this year.

He is in afternoons, 12:45-3:15. Our flight from Orlando gets in at about 11 am, plenty of time for me to get him to school.

BUT, we live in Washington state, so it is an 8 hour flight. I am wondering if I should go ahead and send him, since there is time, or keep him home and let him rest up from his vacation?? I don't want him to miss any more school, he will already be missing 4 days from the week before.

We have UPH, so it will be a tiring trip, but he is a trooper and usually does okay when tired.

I would let him stay home. After missing four days, what's one more? I'm a bad example, though. When my daughter was in Kdg, she missed two weeks in a row for a trip to WDW.
Remember, it's only Kdg (please, I don't mean to offend any KDG teachers).

but don't forget the time change ...3 hrs difference I believe. He may be too tired to enjoy first day back!

You can always wait and see how tired he is and what he wants to do, but I expect he will be too tired to make the day worthwhile. I would not worry too much about kindergarten.

After all of the time on the airplane, I would think that you would do best by taking him to a park and letting him play away any excess energy. It would probably be a tough day in the classroom for both he and his classmates/teacher.

I'd keep him home. One more day for a kindergartener shouldn't be a big deal in the grand scheme of things. He'd probably be too tired to learn well, anyway.

Now if you'd asked whether to take him straight from school to the airport, I'd have said yes in a heartbeat.

I agree with the previous posters. When I first read the title I thought you meant should he go to school before the flight out and would definitely have said YES. But the other way round no, he will be tired, over excited and it wouldn't do him, the other kids or the teacher any good trying to cope with that. For the sake of one more day take him home. He will soon make up what he has missed when he does go back.

I agree with the others, and an 8 hour flight landing at 11am, means that he will have been up for an awfully long time - it's not going ot be like 11am on a normal day.

we have a 10 hour flight to get home, although since we fly in the opposite direction, that is also coupled with a missed nights sleep, but there is no way I could go to work or my dd to school when we land, we normally go straight to bed. (and it's usually around 10am when we get back)
