Should I report speeding?

A couple of weeks ago we used QuickSilver Limo service from MCO to WDW Resorts. Our driver was on time, courteous and friendly. We had the same driver on our return to the airport. Again, he was on time, courteous and friendly - however - he was a "speed demon"!!!! We were picked up at 6 PM for an 8:20 PM flight, so we had plenty of time to reach the airport and still have time to spare. This driver averaged 12-15 mph OVER the speed limit - in a lot of traffic. In addition, he was a "surger" - you know when the person driving pushes way down on the gas pedal and then backs off so that the passengers kind of lurch forward and backward causing kind of a motion sickness kind of feeling. Anyway, I feel that I should bring this to the attention of the limo company, but really do hate to get this young man in trouble. He was very nice, but honestly, I think 15 mph over the speed limit is way too fast. What do you think I should do?

Me too! He obviously made you uncomfortable with his speed and style of driving. Very bad for business.

Personally I wouldn't report because 15mph over the speed limit is my usual speed :moped:

Your serious ?? I bet you anything you at one time have gone over the speed limit . There is no law on going over. Plain and simple ,you go over 1mph , your breaking the law. Pretty easy when someone has glass windows in the house ? sit back and think . your going to ruin some kids christmas this yr because daddy gets fired because your going to play cops ?? Worry about yourself. If you dont like what happened, plain and simple you should of said somethign to him when you got out of the car and just never use that service. Any person who post on here that you should report is a joke . I probably could sit in front of your house or any others here for a week and run radar to catch one of you commit a traffic violation.

I think you are being a little harsh don't you. For goodness sake the op was only asking a question, and a question which the op had every right to ask. I think people should be nice when responding to posts whether they agree or disagree.

to respond to your question. I think it is to late to call and complain. But if you use a car company again let the driver know your expectations and tell them that you get motion sickness. I think you will have a better trip the next time.

I'm confused - of course there are laws about/against exceeding the speed limit. Speed limits exist for safety.

To the OP: Why not contact the limo company as anonymously as possible? If they have a toll-free number, call from a pay phone; if you haven't used e-mail before, send them one now using a non-identifiable e-mail address now. Just let them know in as general terms as possible, what happened. That you don't want to (or can't) identify the driver, but wanted to let them know or were wondering about their policy on speeding...

I agree that offtheice is out of line with the response. We all have our own opinions but that is no reason to attack the original poster.
That being said, let us all stop and think a little on this one. Sure, everyone goes over the speed limit, hoping not to get caught. However, IMO speeding is way out of control today. We take driving very lightly... disregarding the fact that someone can easily be hurt or killed because of our desire to get there in a hurry.

We have forgotten today that driving is not and never was a "right" granted to us. We are supposed to learn the rules of saftey and consideration as we learn to drive and get our license. Far too many people today just do what they want without considering others.

Our local newspaper has one or more stories almost every day about horrible accidents caused by speeding and carelessness. Driving today is getting more frustrating becuase of the congestion on so many roads. It will not get better going forward. Think about how little time is really saved by speeding. Isn't it worth it to go a little slower and get there safely?

Far to often in today's society we take for granted our precious gift of life. We all only get one chance at it. Let's all do the best we can for us and everyone.

First of all, :wave2: to the OP from south of the James. :)

I don't think a couple of weeks is too much time to have passed to report the driver. And yes, I would report him. If he had merely gone maybe 5 mph over the limit, I'd say let it go. 12-15 mph over is approaching reckless driving, and the surging you described may even be considered reckless as well.

I don't know if I would do it anonymously, though. The company may just dismiss a report like that without any contact info. I would also mention that the driver was prompt and very courteous, but the company should know about their driver's behavior behind the wheel.

I would report it as well. You might be saving someone else from a serious injury. I have had the same experience with cab drivers and limo drivers here in Chicago and always want to kick myself for not reporting it. Several years ago a female executive was killed when the limo driver was speeding and crashed into stopped traffic on the highway. It is amazing how cautious we are when we drive by making sure the car seats are utilized and secured along with seat belts and then we get into a cab without car seats and seldom use seat belts.

You can report it if it makes you feel better but why did you not just ask him to slow down if it was making you uncomfortable. You stated that he was very nice so that was not an issue. Also, you have control with the tip. If he did not provide the service as you wanted it you don't have to tip him. All of this would probally do more to insure good service than calling 2 weeks after the trip.

In some parts of the country 10-15 mph over the limit isn't even keeping up with traffic.

If the driver was weaving in and out of lanes to pass or was clearly driving significantly and noticeable faster than other vehicles I'd consider saying something to the towncar company. The fact that he was a "surger" doesn't have anything to do with speed. Some drivers to that in stop and go traffic. Many other passengers appreciate "quick" service.

I wouldn't report it.

You're right. I should have asked him to slow down. Don't know why I didn't. Guess I didn't want the confrontation. As for the time lapse, I was just trying to decide what, if anything, I should do. In any case, in the future, I will make my expectations known before I step into the limo as Kimberlyfamilyfv suggested. Hopefully this will not happen again.

Also, hello back atcha, Matthew (Obi-Wan Pinobi). Good to hear from a fellow Virginian.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Actually, in Florida, speeding almost became legal. It was only because Jeb Bush vetoed our infamous "Road Rage Bill" that it didn't. The bill basically mandated that drivers speed in the lefthand lane! If your towncar driver had been in that lane and was going the speed limit or below, he could have been ticketed since the lawmakers believe that impedes traffic. Maybe he didn't realize that it was vetoed. ;)
Now that we also have the "Shoot First" law (i.e. you can shoot someone here in FL if you feel threatened without trying to retreat first), it would have been interesting to see how that one would have combined with the Road Rage law. :earseek:

I wouldn't report it. Where I'm originally from (CT), 10-15 miles over the speed limit is more the norm and it wouldn't have bothered me. It's possible he didn't know he was "surging." Some people unconsciously drive that way, putting their foot on the gas and taking it off rather than stepping on the brake. I had a friend who drove that way and when I mentioned I was car sick from it, she didn't realize she was doing it.
This is my opinion though; if you felt endangered, you should report it.
