Hi all, it's me, sprained foot and ankle girl. I am starting physical therapy and I am "walking" at home without my boot on for a few hours a day. I leave for the world in 11 days. Am I crazy to think I may be able to go without the scooter for some of my days?

i have a scooter reserved with Apple scooter, but I have 3 more PT appts before then and maybe, just maybe, I could walk some of my trip?

Has anyone had this situation before? Am I better off just renting the scooter for the week just to have it? I don't want to rent it if I won't use it.

Basically a person has a certain amount of energy available to them daily. If they relax during the day the amount of energy available will increase; when they sleep at night they recharge their system,

However, when in pain energy is used up much faster than in normal conditions. If you become exhausted, with by what you have done or, more importantly, what you have done while in pain your system will not recharge to the original energy level overnight and you are starting the next day with a lower amount of energy available.

Once around the World Showcase Lagoon Promenade is about 1½ miles not counting visits into Pavilions; most people tend to average 8 - 12 miles per day at WDW.

If you find yourself in the walking mode you can park the scooter here and there, but I would not go without one. Why do you want to take a chance of reinjury? I find Apple Scooters to be reasonable (maybe the cheapest); so, have it just in case. Doing a little walking at home is not a good test for Disney even though you have some time before you go.

Besides, you will enjoy it more with a scooter and not worrying about your foot.

Scooters are the best ride in the park! Besides saving your weary bones, some rides have handicapped access that works better than a Fastpass. And it's so nice to sit on a padded scooter seat to watch "Illuminations" in a reserved area without standing around to save your spot, and remain standing through the whole fireworks show. You'll need to plug in the charger over night. Ask the hotel where to do this. Sometimes the bell captain will take care of it; other times you can leave the scooter by an electrical outlet outside your room. You keep the key so the scooter is relatively safe.

This is wrong information. You often have to wait longer for many rides--an ECV does not shorten your wait time. It is not a substitute for a Fastpass. Also, you do need to get to the reserved areas early for fireworks and parades because they often fill up fast! Take it from someone who has "been there done that!"

Something I found was that when I am in Florida, even though at home I don't have much swelling to my feet, they do at down there. It has been over three years since my last surgery on my foot, but even last week it swelled pretty bad when in Florida.

Piper, I'm sorry you didn't save time when you were scootin around. My husband and I were in Disney World last month and saved hours. We got to Illuminations less than half an hour before it started, and there was room in the handicapped area. I wonder if the time of year made the difference, or if we were just lucky.

I would agree with this. On some rides you were able to go in the exit and hop right on the ride, but I would not assume to use it as a fass pass. We were able to get into some shows early, but some of them they have you sit in the way back. We did find that on some rides, handicap access had us waiting longer than the regular line. (I would not worry about this in your decision making though - just base it purely on if you need it or not and you will be happy!)

I just got back and I rented a scooter from Apple scooter also! They were so helpful and very friendly. They even told me that you can cancel whenever you need too, so I would keep the reservation until a few days before you get there? If you think you "might" need it - keep it!! It saved my vacation! (I have a swollen knee and would be unable to go to WDW without it)

My biggest piece of information is that even though you can "walk" at home for a whole day - it is VERY different at WDW! My thoughts were that I could probably force myself to walk one day, but then the rest of my vacation would be SHOT. Even with an ECV you do a certain amount of walking - to and from the scooter and maybe around your resort and as PP said you can park it and walk if you feel ok to do so!

I say - rent it and enjoy your vacation!!!

You were just lucky. You should never plan on having shorter wait times.

On more crowded days the handicapped viewing areas will fill up completely at least an hour beforehand.

I commonly wait longer than the standby line to get onto the ride, if the line is not mainstreamed. When you travel again, you should definitely plan on waiting the regular time.

Thank you everyone. My trip is in 3 days and I will 100% need the scooter. I can hobble around the house o.k., but not out and about. I am still don't even have full range of motion in my foot and ankle. Sprains take a long time to heal I am discovering.

Just to reiterate, I never expected shorter lines and faster service b/c of the scooter. I would honestly prefer to be walking b/c I am worried about parking, not being able to tram, riding the ferry, keeping track of my kids etc on the scooter. But my PT told me I should ride as much as I can b/c walking in the boot is tiring and my feet are uneven and it will just be tough.

I actually plan to ride and then walk and stand in the stand by lines. I have no issue with waiting and I can tolerate standing and walking. I think I'll need my boot on jerkier rides to protect it, but not for small world etc. I am a teacher so I have been on my feet for hours in my boot out of job necessity. But Disney walking is not normal etc. Just the thought of hobbling around world showcase makes me anxious.

I'll let everyone know how my scooting goes, and how Apple scooters is. I have had nothing but wonderful conversations with Alex there so I am expecting a smooth trip.

I would rent the scoter only to play it safe there is nothing worse than being on vacation and being in pain and hurt if you don’t have to. It awesome your make progress: cheer2: on healing your injury. just remember this if your traveling with someone you can still walk around and take turn using the scooter and it safety net not but u on set back on your injury . I wish you a new York minute recovery ...:hippie:
