Should I Quit?

I was recently fired from my job for whistleblowing. Trust me, now that I am out there looking for a job, if someone had called me that morning and told me that I would be fired before the day was up, then I would have typed out my resignation letter, and been out the door before they had the chance to fire me. In an effort to sugar coat why I blew the whistle, they have made it appear that I did something that I did not. They have fought me every step of the way, fought me on my unemployment, everything. I have no job references at this point. I have no former supervisor to use because after turning them in, they won't give me any kind of reference. And no attorney wants to look at the case because A: I have no money, B: they don't want to be the attorney to sue this place.

So, I am left like with my career in ruins. I am really beginning to worry that I won't be able to work in social services again, because of what they are saying.

So, if you think you are going to get fired, and if you aren't happy, quit while you still have the chance.

Have you called the bar association in the area to see if you can talk to someone about taking the case Pro Bono?

Most places will not tell a future employer that you were terminated. They will only confirm that you worked for them from the dates you put on your resure or not. So whether we terminate someone or they quit a future employer would not know the difference at least not for us they wouldn't.

While I think you're right, there still are other consequences when it comes to quitting over being fired. I know here in Canada if you hope to collect Employment Insurance after your job has ended you cannot quit.

Quit or be Fired??? That depends on wether you need to collect unemployment benefits or not.If you need the money let them fire you or if you can survive without a paycheck then quit.
Good Luck.I certainly hope you find a job that suits you!

Actually in MA you can still collect unemployment even if you are terminated as long as your former employer is not "fighting it". So if we terminate someone because the "job is just not a good fit for them" we do not fight their unemployment claim. If they commited some sort of gross neglagenice then that is a different issue but I have been managing people, read as can hire or fire, for about 18yrs now and the last seven plus with the same company and we have not tried to fight someone's unemployment claim yet. Just speaking for my unit of course. The company employs almost 20,000 worldwide so I am sure somewhere they might have fought something but nothing in my area.

I think we're saying the same thing here. I said, there is usually no problem collecting unemployment benefits if your job has been terminated. However, it's problematic when you quit.
