I usually fly out of a small local airport where it's really not necessary to print the passes ahead of time. In March we're driving to PHL to catch a direct flight. Will pre-printing be necessary there?

Are you checking luggage? If you are then printing out ahead of time won't save you much time unless you are looking to get better seats.

I always do online check-in to see if there are any better seats, as Safetymom said, but I also want to be sure my seats are reserved. It makes it harder for them to change your seats when you've already checked in. I have had my seats changed when I waited until I got to the airport.

Theoretically our seats are assigned as there are seat numbers on our e-tickets and I chose those seats when I booked, but I'll print them off the web site if that will lock them in. Thanks for the advice.

Sometimes you may not have been able to get the seats you wanted so online check in allows you to change. Also sometimes in a overbooked plane they look at check in times . If you checked in early you won't have any problems.

I have had it happen where you checked in at home, when I got to the airport there had been a change of equipment. Gate agents had to reassign the seats. Checking in ahead of time meant nothing at that point.
