Should I plan for Avatar land in October 2017?

Made my res for October 2017 and am in the beginning stages of planning (early, I know but I can't help it!)

How realistic is it to plan for Avatar land to be open by that time? I know the projected open date is sometime in 2017 but we all know that these things can be postponed (i.e. Rivers of light).

What are the odds? Any new tumors on development?

Some people would say the whole development is a tumor

From the rumors i've heard, it won't be ready until December 2017 at the earliest. It's all speculation though. Nobody really knows

There's a good chance that Phase I of Pandora will be open by your visit.

(Unfortunately, I can't tell you what Phase I will and will not include.)

To be honest your question depends on who you ask. I haven't seen anything regarding Avatar opening in Dec 2017 all threads I have seen is that it would be open before then but again you'll hear different answers from different people. You'll also see many many threads on this topic with many people commenting one thread will have optimists, one thread will have realists and one thread will have pessimists.

There's a nicely maintained post over on the Rumors & News board about the various projects in the pipeline at WDW. http://www.disboards.com/threads/major-wdw-projects-completion-dates-read-post-1.3475627/

According to that post completion is planned for 2017, rumored early 2017. It's tough to say for sure, and there's always the possibility of an unforeseen circumstance as with ROL, and the fiasco over FEA(Hopefully that will be a short-term issue.)

To me pandora from the outside looks like it's getting damn close. I don't see anyone on the scaffolding anymore painting so I think that might start to come down soon. Of course that means nothing as far as time frame since the rides and things are usually the long part of this but it's coming along nice..

when do you plan to actually book? I would personally wait for november when destination d is happening. This is a "conference/d23 event" that is all about the disney theme parks. It's happening in orlando and I suspect if pandora is going to open before end of summer, there will be a more firm when to expect it date or at least opening month. If it's slipped because announcing a new land actually hurts visitors when they delay coming waiting for it they will not have any date and you can assume no pandora for your oct 2017 trip.

My gut, they are not going to let volcano bay at universal open before pandora and you'll have it for oct 2017.

I'm already booked for October 18 to 25. It's one of the only weeks we can schedule, so unfortunately I can't move it to November.

I am in the same boat OP.

We are going late October/early November 2017 and have fingers, legs, arms, eyes and anything else that can be crossed, crossed! We will still go, new things for us this trip - staying at Polynesian Village, new restaurants at Disney Springs, Frozen (if working), night time activities at AK - which I hope is open late in October, will be keeping a close eye on this October- plus food/wine and Halloween party.

If it's not open, I guess we will have to visit when we come back for the other two lands....

Also, I really try not to read about it until there is a factual answer. It helps me not worry about something I can't control and it's the internet, you get a lot of ..... opinions. :D

Here's to hope!:drinking1

I would not get my hopes up given the time it took for Fantasyland to be completed.

Destination D won't happen in 2017, it is this year and only bi-annual when D23 Expo isn't happening. :) Just to add to that - that being said, I highly recommend the event!

I think the poster was suggesting not to book for next October (2017) until after Destination D this November, perhaps it will have a clearer timeframe for Pandora.

Correct, if I was disney this years Destination D is probably when I would announce pandora's opening date. Then OP knows what to do about their oct 2017 trip. So waiting to book your trip until november this year when the destination d news comes out will be more informed on if/when they do want to travel to WDW.

We're basically in that window where people are going to start slowing down so they can do it up budget wise when something new they want opens.

Okay sorry I misunderstood you then - and yes I agree they might reveal the opening date during the event!

And today's winners are .............. pixiedust:

Seriously, I don't believe any projections and rumors for an opening on this project. NO ONE KNOWS, not even the Wizard behind the curtain.

If Disney were smart they won't announce an opening until about 30 days out with their luck on openings. :rolleyes1

There are permits filed until the end of 2018 at least, so likely it will open in pieces or a very long time from now.

Best bet, unless it's once in a lifetime, just plan a trip when it's best for you ... if it's open pixie dust ... if it's not, business as usual.
