Should I plan for another short trip to Disneyland?

We just got back in February from DisneyWorld. I was thinking of planning a 4 day trip to California in June. Two hour plane ride.
So, I'm wondering if that's too much as in too much vacation? We've never taken a trip twice a year. We're in the process of saving for a house too.

We have no plans for the summer or for the rest of the year.. So I'm wondering what to do.

The cost will come out to roughly 2000-3000.00. Do you find that too costly for hotels, flights, car rental, food, and disney tickets? Any advice would be great.

It's your money and you can spend it as you see fit.

I don't believe there is any such thing as too much vacation. But if it were my money, then $2K-$3K for a 4-day trip would be more than I would want to spend. And I wouldn't be thinking of spending that much money on a trip if I was trying to save for a house. I would find more affordable ways to spend my vacation time.

I'm aware that it's my money but I posted for suggestions or advice. Otherwise I wouldn't have posted.

Thanks for your comment, that is something to think about!

That seems high to me price wise but depends on what your baseline is hotel/food wise.. Our dlr trips usually come in just about a grand for 2 of us for flights from Mco and budget hotelfood etc(everything but park tix) We usually take the super shuttle in etc.. But if you prefer disney hotels the costs will skyrocket

I think something we'd need to know is how many people this includes? $2000-$3000 is an awful lot if it's for 2 people. But if we're taking about a family of 6 then it might seem worth it.

But like a PP said, it all depends on your financial state and if you'd rather see that money go towards your new home? Only you can make that choice since we don't know your entire financial state. If you're asking if that's a lot of money for a 4 day trip it all depends on its relevance to other vacations you take. I don't think anyone can take TOO many vacations so long as they're living within their means.

Like PPs have indicated, only you know your finances.

For us, we designated last year as "The Year of Disney". We purchased annual passes and went to DL 4x. This year is "The Year of the House". So, no travel (except for some camping in the summer) and all disposable income is going towards renovating the house. Next year we will travel, but I have yet to determine the theme (kids just want warm beaches!).

I don't think the pricing is out of line. DH and I have a 4 day trip trip planned to DL later this summer and our budget is right at the $3k.

As for is that too much vacation, nope you could never have too much :) My only comment is in regards to you saying you aren't used to taking 2 trips a year. If that's the case I'd wait and to the DL trip later summer maybe Aug or even into Sept. We try to spread all our trips out evenly throughout the year. With your schedule you are taking 2 trips during the first half of 2015 then you have at least 6 months before another trip.

We were just at WDW in Feb. I added an extra trip for May. I "justified" it by reducing the airfare (SW points), and buying Disney GC through Target. I'm also cutting our food and souvenir budget in half for May. So the 4 day trip in May will be roughly half what we spent for a 4 day trip in Feb. This makes me feel less guilty about spending the money instead of putting extra money for the mortgage or for the kids' college fund. Hope that helps!

Check Orbitz (go through ebates) for hotels. I've been getting emails for 15% off hotels. I've had good luck renting cars through Costco, if you're a member. Tickets - likely cheaper w the ebates/Cheaptickets deal.

I'd go. But then I have been going solo to Disney World 4 1/2 days every 6 months and spent about 2,500.00 for just me so I'm probably not the person to be asking. LOL

Since you aren't doing anything else this summer, this could be your summer trip. As others have said, try Orbitz for hotel and rental car deals. And you could buy breakfast food once you get there and eat breakfast in your room if you don't get a hotel with a free breakfast. That could help save some more money.

Do you have kids? Some of my absolute best memories as a kid are of vacations with my parents. Kids grow up so fast. I say make the memories while you can. It is easy to put stuff off, but you never know what the future will bring. You might put it off too long, or something unexpected could happen that will prevent it. Only you know your finances. If it is not going to make a big impact with you, then I would go for it. If you are asking if it is too much Disney, it isn't. We have been taking 2 vacations a year with DD, and we have done both WDW and DL in a year, and we are never sorry we did. We love both places!

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but for those of you who have been to DL, where do you stay? We had a trip planned two years ago (had reservations at Candy Cane Inn) and then had to cancel the trip due to the sudden decline of my parents' health. My DSis and I went to WDW this past month but I would still like to go on a once-in-a-lifetime DL trip. I don't like to fly but I think I could make that long flight for one trip to DL. Thanks.

I would ask this on the disneyland forum, you will get a lot of responses there. At disneyland you do not need to stay onsite because the offsite hotels are close and a fraction of the price. Majority of people will tell you to stay within walking distance and i 100% agree. There are a ton of options. Candy cane inn and the hojo probably get the best reviews but they are the farthest at about a 10 minute walk. There are many closer but they are more "value" type motels. There are some of us (like me) that would rather stay onsite. It is more money, but you get to stay in the disney bubble. it all depends what kind of vacation you want, and what your budget is.

Seems high depending on the number of people going. We fly ~2 hours for $180ish per person on JetBlue or $240ish if Alaska. We also stay "offsite" at a place on Harbor rather than the $300+ per night options "onsite". In quotes because at Disneyland onsite can be further than offsite... we also don't buy many souvenirs (if any) and only do one or two spendy meals.

Two trips in one year is not too much... if you can afford it. I'm in the party that says if you are saving up for X and it is important to hit Y by Z then you can't afford it though. :)

depends on your finances..... I understand the wanting to.... since I wanted to 'tack on' a couple of Disneyland days to an upcoming family trip (only another 7 hours of driving!) but DH said NO quite firmly.....:teacher: FWIW, saving for a house is a big deal.... and the expenses are always more than you plan for.... so there is that, and I also don't think you can have too much vacationing! I feel like the Europeans who take a minimum of 6 weeks vacay yearly have it right....my DH disagrees, but I think vacationing is a way to get outside of ordinary life, and make memories.... I personally wouldn't/couldn't pay 4k for 4 days, but that's me. I used to vacation only once yearly, but as I've gotten older, and smarter, I have been dragging my family to various places at least 3-4 times a year now.....

You can never have " too much vacation" in my opinion . However, I'd problary still vacation for those days but somewhere cheaper.
Like we live in Texas & it's about 2 & 1/2 hours from San Antonio & we often take a short trip there or to Port Aransas. We don't spend much compared to a Disney trip & we have lots of fun.

I would compromise and take a less expensive local vacation (camping or beach?) and put the difference toward the house.

Since you don't have anything else planned for the year, I would use the money for several cheaper, closer to home weekend trips instead of 4 days at DLR. Maybe even just some really nice day trips over the summer. But that's just me.

But if you are set on going to DLR, realize it's different than WDW - staying onsite isn't the same sort of thing. It's perfectly OK to stay offsite at DLR - often times the hotels are closer than the Disney hotels! I usually get a hotel room in the $80-$150/night range (and that's per room, not per person), although I prefer to stay a bit further away from the park than some folks and take the ART bus instead of walking.
