I have a very 'brave-thrill seeking' 3.5 yr old. He is very tall for his age (42.5-43" without shoes on) so he makes the cut for a lot of rides.

I know from reading post that Alein Encounter is NOT a ride for him, besides he doesn't make the height requirement for that one.

But he really wants to ride Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, ToT, Dinosaur....all rides he CAN ride according to his height.

He has been on many rides before that drop you & different kinds of roller coasters & has loved them all.

I have tried to explain the rides at Disney (like Haunted Mansion) saying they maybe scary parts but they are just pretend. He tells me he will be fine as long as daddy or I are with him.
I figured once he sees some of these rides he may decide NOT to try them after all & that is OK.

But if he still decides to try them do I let him go on? Especially rides like Dinosaur & ToT??? I don't want him to freak out in the middle of a ride.

jacksons mom,
I would start of with"tame"rides and build up from there, I am gonna have this same problem with my nephew who is also a thrill seeker already. But I think as long as he knows what will happen, and you build up to things you should be fine, If he does freak out during a ride, then the only thing you can do is wait till its over, but the only ride I can think of that happening with him is TOT.
Good luck,
Aimee

You are the parent and you get to decide.

I wouldn't. And I wouldn't because for my family we will take a lot of Disney trips in the future. I want each trip to be filled with both old favorites and new experiences. Its my feeling that Dinosaur and ToT (in particular, Splash and HM are different) are rides I want them to be thrilled about riding when they are a little older, and haven't gotten so jaded about it all that by nine or twelve that "Disney is boring, I've done all those things."

My 4 year old twin daughters went on Splash, Dinosaur, Haunted Mansion, and ToT at just turning 4 and did fine, Dinosaur WAS scary to them, but I find them talking about going on it again now, so it must not have been THAT scary to them.

They were a bit afraid of HM and say they dont want to go back on that, but something tells me they will go anyway, (especially if a lollipop is offered as an incentive ) We are big on "Face your fears" unless of course they are screaming and crying, which they havent done!

One daughter wants to go back on TOT, the other one doesnt. It's all up to the kids and how they handle things. 3 totally different "Scaryish" rides, and 3 totally different reactions.

My 5 yo is a HUGE fan of dinosaurs (particularly the carnataur (sp?) from Disney's Dinosaur movie) and nothing seems to scare him regarding dinosaurs. We prepared him for the dinosaur ride by saying that it would be loud and dark and the dinos would pop out and scare us. Dinosaur is a VERY intense ride. My whole family rode it and only DH wanted to go on it again. No one freaked out or cried, but they were definitely scared. I would be cautious about bringing a 3 yr old on that ride.
Another surprise was Haunted Mansion, my 5 yo was fine while I had to cover the eyes of my 6yo and sometimes my 8yo...go figure!
I think you would do fine on Splash Mountain and BTMRR.

Have a fun trip!

Thank you everyone.

I guess we will see how he feels about the rides when we get there. Who knows he might change his mind!

I think he if he is up to it I will let him ride Splash, BTMRR & the Haunted Manison.

I still don't know if I like him riding Dinosaur...maybe I will check it out first & then decide.

That's a great idea for you to ride it first and then decide! Believe it or not, Dinosaur was our first ride in the first park on our first family trip to DW...what a way to start the day! It IS a great ride, one of Disney's best in my opinion.
