Should I just mind my own business?

That's Rob Baker's division, isn't it?

That's Rob Baker's division, isn't it?[/Qwe do not have divisions we have battalions. which are 1,2,3. i am in the third battalion which would be east in the county. however there is a nigel baker who is the battalion chief of the 2nd battalion. it is a more western battalion. that might be who you are talking about. and if you know him you can ask him about me. i worked with him for two years. just tell him the firefighter on engine 35 b shift. he is also familiar with the large part of my family in the fire service. hes a good guy. i do not know if we are talking abou the same guy. we have a pretty big dept and that is the only baker I know in charge of a battalion and it is almost the most western one we have.

no we have 10 as of now. i just stopped at 3 so i didnt count. if you are familiar with palm beach county 1 is in the jupiter area and the farms
2 is the western coastal area royal palm wellington loxahatchee and the acreage 3 is lake worth lantana area 4 is delray 5 is the unincorp. boca area 6 is actually palm beach gardens, they are actually a separate dept but we do their dispatch, 7 is pahokee belle glade and south bay, 8 is palm beach international airport, they are their own battalion for tax reasons, 9 is our specialty units splops and quints and 10 is the unincorp. are west of the city of west palm beach and just a little south of that

I had forgotten about this thread.

On a serious note, we had a 15-year old in our town die a little over a week ago falling off a golf cart being driven on a neighborhood street.

http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2010/03/hoover_boy_dies_from_injury_in.html

Subsequent reports showed that the cart was being operated on a neighborhood street for which it was not equipped. The driver/operator was not driving irresponsibly but in a straight line at speed. The young man fell off the cart and hit his head on the pavement. He was rushed to the hospital but he never woke up and was pronounced dead soon after his arrival.

His accident was not unusual: http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2010/03/doctors_at_birminghams_childre.html

So if any neighborhood jacka$$ gives you any lip about his kids driving a golf cart in the neighborhood AT ALL, ask the jacka$$ to write a condolence letter to the parents of Thomas Messina in Hoover, AL. Then ask him what HIS address is "just in case".

I've said my piece. Thomas and his family attended my church and I pray no family ever has to go through what they've gone through either.

It takes so little for a situation to end tragically. When I was in Louisiana working on my nursing degree I spent a few years in hospitals drawing blood for labwork. I was called to the ER one evening, and the patient was a 17 year-old who fell from the back of an S-10 pickup. The truck was sitting still at a traffic light and there were 3 other guys in the back. This kid simply lost his balance and fell, hitting his head on the pavement. He died the next day.

I have been known to risk a case of road rage when I see someone driving like an idiot through the neighborhood. I'd rather that than have to find a kid hurt because of it.

I got labeled the "neighborhood nazi" once because of my aggresive efforts to slow people down on my street, even went so far as to swear out a warrant against one young man and followed up and had him arrested on it when he refused to answer the court order to appear. I took a lot of grief over it and had some vandalism because of it but in the end the neighborhood was safer and that was my goal. Often doing the right thing is the hardest.

:thumbsup2 Great job! I have often wanted to take action on my street as well. I actually witnessed a race in front of my house in a 30mph zone. Did I mention an officer even lives at the end of the street? Go figure! I wouldn't mind being called a N.N. if it meant my kids were safe!
