Okay we are going to WDW again in Nov. from the 17th til the 26th and we reservations at SOG for 9 nights and I also just booked POP today for 9 days. I can't decide what to do. The kids really want to stay at POP...but we have to have two rooms in order to do this. So that means 220 a night with tax for two rooms vs. 106 a night (no tax) for a BIG HUGE SOG ROOM that is plenty big for us. I see that I can get up to a 15% discount at POP if I have AAA. So say it is 15% off that would bring our room rates down at POP to about 84 a night before tax. WE don't belong but I could join I guess to say that money. There are pros and cons to staying at SOG and POP. We stayed at SOG in Jan. and we have stayed there years ago too. We have also stayed at Contemporary twice, Poly once, Dixie Landings, Carribean Beach. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. HELP HELP HELP

I would stay at SOG, stayed there for our last trip in May, LOVED the changes. It is a walk to the Polynesian (it is almost like staying there) and close to the monarail and other sites to eat. Plus you get the in room fridge that you have to pay extra for at the other resorts. You can keep milk and other snacks fresh, that was HUGE for us as we had little ones. With the one room, you are assured that everyone is together, no running back and forth and you can stretch out. I also liked having the little bit of extra security, with the gate pass (granted it isn't fort knox but still) and it is cheaper to eat at SOG, my DH is still raving about the breakfast buffet that was $18.00 for the 4 of us!

Just My Humble Opinion

The AAA rate would be 84.15 before tax, the tax is 11.5 so per night the cost would be 93.82 x 2 rooms = 187.64 per night...gotta tell ya that $106.00 per night at SOG really seems to be the better way to go. Your location at SOG is certainly more desirable than the POP. If it were me I'd rather have the 81.64 per night savings.

I have been a AAA member for years and definitely use its advantages, especially for my WDW rooms. I have saved a lot of money. :flower:

I also am able to write it off my AAA membership on my taxes. ;)

Whether or not you use it for the rooms, there are many other benefits. The road side assitance is great. Also, many restaurants and stores have a AAA discount. I believe you can even get your tickets there for a discounted rate. Also, if you want to do other attractions in Orlando, then you will save there as well. IMO, it's WELL worth it.

Do you mean that you write off the cost for AAA??/ How is that jsutified? Not accusing, just seeing if it's something we can do.

Or do you mean because you use AAA you can write off what you used it with ie..the resort stay? Thanks :goodvibes

Sounds like something I should consider. I think I have decided to stay the majority of our trip at SOG and maybe the last 3 nights at POP..just for the kids. Splurge a little......

Due to my job responsibilities, I am able to write off the AAA annual fee as a business expense since it is very appropriate in my line of work. I have a CPA who is very conservative and he said that it is acceptable by the IRS guidelines.

I actually have AAA for the road protection benefits. An added benefit are the other perks, but my main reason to have this is for the road protection. :flower:

It is like if your company only pays you 25 cents a mile but the IRS acknowledges 40 cents a mile, then you can write off the 15 cents a mile difference with proper documentation.

Hope this helps. :wave2:

Can anyone go to SOG and eat in the restaurants?

AAA is the best investment we've ever made. Good for DW vacations and a whole lot more. Take a peek at their website.

And yes, what is SOG??

What I saved for 2 of us doing 2 tours paid for my yearly membership.. not to mention what I save on my car insurance (Without switching to Geico) Even if you do not use it for room rates it still pays for itself in 1 trip to WDW

bumping - does anyone know the answer to my question about whether anyone can eat in the SOG restaurants, or do you have to be a resort guest?

You have to have a military or DOD ID to get through the SoG gate (at least you did when I was there a year ago).

I think you probably could although now you have to pay for parking..not sure how that works if you just go to eat. Now I didn't think the food was that great when we were there in Jan. The Garden gallery restaurant was OKAY..we only ate breakfast there. It was cheaper though.

That sounds like a good plan. Then your kids get to experience POP and everyone's happy. :goodvibes
I stayed at SOG back in 1987 when It was called Disney Inn.
Very nice and very spacious. I liked it much better than the Contemporary.
I stay at All Stars now and love them.
The buses are wonderful. :cheer2: I am sure your kids will love POP .
Those huge icons are pure Disney. :earsboy: :earsgirl:
Have a great trip. :wizard:
