Should I Have Said Something?

I think I would have said something also. I do wish they would put in a card swiper at the pools. Yes, it would take longer to get into the pools, but it would cut down on the pool hoppers at the more popular pools. But we had the exact same experience at SAB when we were there a year ago. There were, at least in my opinion, a lot of bandless wrists in the pool. I asked the towel CM about it and she said, and I quote, "Oh, yeah, we know but we can do only so much!" So, may be time for fewer CMs handing out towels and more fencing with gate security. Sad but true.

While we were at Vero Beach during Spring Break recently, we noticed that the gate and card swiper at the pool wasn't really an effective deterrent. I'm sure for some it is, but I noticed most of the people coming in rarely used a card and simply waited for someone else to come out and they'd just grab the gate before it closed.

This puts actual guests in the position of having to confront someone who doesn't appear to have a key, wanting you to hold the gate open for them, and having to ask them if they are registered guests first like some sort of gatekeeper. With so much foot traffic going in and out of there, I'm not real comfortable being put in that position, particularly if Disney themselves doesn't want to be in that position and isn't monitoring it the way it should be.

However, I would have no trouble politely reminding someone taking up valuable table and chair space that have all but admitted they aren't guests, that the pool is for guests only. I'd probably approach it however, as if I'm trying to help them by giving them a heads up to avoid being being asked for proof and potentially being asked to leave. If that didn't work, I would let a CM know.

I spoke with my sales agent just today about a contract and I brought this up. She is going to look into bracelets for all DVC pools. She also said ALWAYS go to the CM's at the desk and report this behavior!

I would have reported them. Nice to see so many people think the same thing.

Was staying at BCV on concierge level with Mom, and had to bring all her junk, towels, bags, etc.... you wouldn't believe the amount of junk ;)

and when sitting down they asked for our key (maybe because we had our own beach towels?)....

I supplied it, and that was that. Quick, painless, and CM was very nice.

I wasn't offended, and I wish they would do it more often. Pools can get pretty crowded at times.

Years ago. I too would have said something and if I didn't get the desired response would have asked for a manager.

However, after a couple of years of pointing out the rule breakers, and seeing nothing done, time-after-time-after-time, I no longer waste my time on vacation, as nothing gets done.

I agree it is up to us, and that we are paying for the direct and indirect costs, but I also know how my Blood Pressure rises when nothing is done (and I have complained about far more serious items/actions) and usually nothing is done.

So, you can flame me, agree with me, pity me or whatever, but I choose to protect my arteries and veins, as well as maintain my good vacation mood by now ignoring the rule breakers, instead of banging my not yet bald head against the wall.

YRMV!

Maybe we need something like an invisible fence for dogs, only in this case you get zapped if you try to get into the pool area without a card or wristband. Ha, ha.

Anyway, I might not report the kids to a CM if there were plenty of tables and chairs available, but if I saw families or older people without places to sit, my Champion of the Underground side would kick in and I'd have to say something, despite my innate dislike of conflict. (Well, face-to-face conflict...sometimes I sort of enjoy little arguments on the boards...is that terrible?)
