Should I have charged up the DS before I wrapped it?

I didn't even look at the box before I wrapped it to see if it takes a certain battery or if it's a rechargeble item that I should open up and charge. Anyone know?

It would probably be better for it to be fully charged than for him/her to play it while its charging for the first time. I charged a camera and put it back in the box for tomorrow.

The DS is something that has a rechargable battery inside it.

ack.

now I get to figure out which box is the DS. LOL - thanks for the question, hadn't even thought of it!!

It will have a wall charger so that they can start playing right away. And the DS will charge while they're playing.

I just charged ours last night for DD. Then I set it up (language, name, date, time, etc.) but my DD is only 6 so I knew I'd be doing it anyway I figured I'd save time and get it done early.

I would charge it. I heard once somewhere that to get the longest use out of the battery, you should charge something all the way, (without using it while it's charging,) then use it all the way, then charge it all the way again, and then it will get as much use as possible without having to charge.

How long will it take to fully charge? I think I'll be unwrapping DD's and setting it all up for her so she thinks that Santa made it all especially for her

I need to know too! I have 2 wrapped and in hiding, but don't mind unwrapping them and charging all night if that would be better for the kids!

Would charging from about midnight until morning fully charge them?

Don't unwrap! They are fine to charge while playing! My kids had the ds lites and the DSis and the battery life has been fine on all. None were pre charged. All were played with immediately.

We charged ours and took a picture of DH and I making a silly face so that it's on the screen when DS opens his. :)

I charged both out DD's before I wrapped them. My 7 yr old got a used one and I actually HAD to recharge it because I played it so long that it almost died.:rolleyes1 If I remember right, it only took 3 or 4 hours to toatally charge.

this was true of the older style rechargables bout the ones in use now don't haveto be done this way. Playing while charging is fine.

Good to know! Really didn't want to unwrap and risk the kids seeing them! The 2 older kids don't *believe* anymore, and both started asking for a ds after I had bought their other gifts, so I said maybe next year. But when Santa brings their baby sister's gifts, he is going to drop them off for them!:santa:

No need to pre-charge. They will charge up just fine as you start to play with them. The wall charger (or even one of the handy car chargers, if you got one) works just fine at keeping the batteries topped off. :thumbsup2

I chraged my son's PSP last night before I wrapped it... we are leaving to visit family later tomorrow and I wanted to make sure it was fully charged for the plane ride.

Thanks for this question. I went in and charged my son's this afternonn. His is a gift from Santa for in the morning. Knew there some charged because I went in and set it up including the wifi connection but it took my an hour to figure it all out and I had ran it down some.
