Okay for the past week or so I've had bad sinus drainage in the back of my nose/throat area. I can't seem to get any of it up and it has been driving me crazy. Well last night I woke up either choking or gasping for breath at 3 a.m. of course once I woke up I was okay but I coughed my head off afterwards and my throat still feels weird and the sinus stuff is still there. I'm coughing every 5 seconds trying to clear it out but it isn't working. The gasping thing last night came closer that I've been in a long time in bringing on a full blown panic attack and I've been fighting one all day today because of it. Its not fun waking up not being able to breathe.

So should I go to the doctor? Maybe all I need is some sinus meds....does anyone else have sinus problems or anything similar to this?

I have panic attacks and when something like this happens its sometimes hard for me to distinguish between what is happening for real and if I do need to go the the Doctor...or if its the panic talking.

I'd go to the Dr. I have chronic sinus problems and it always turns into an infection. I think it's easy to get sinus infections. I also have panic attacks and know what that feels like. If nothing else, going to the Dr will aleve your stress. Most likely he can give you a good decongestant and antibiotics (if it's an infection) and you'll rest much easier.

Thanks Kelli!! It just terrified me last night! I definatly don't want to go through that again tonight and will probably scare myself to death and stay awake to try to keep it from happening. Your right going will take the stress off and calm my panic!

{{HUGS}} Hey wanna come visit? Its only 75 degrees here today and sunny!! Personally I would love to come play in the snow with you!

I have chronic sinus infections and panic disorder, and the winter before I went on meds (for my anxiety) I had what you're describing *all* the time! I always thought I was gonna either cough or choke to death.

My dr. now puts me on a Z-Pak (zithromycin) when I get an infection. To help stave them off, she's had me take vitamin C capsules with rose hips. She says that's a good natural defense.

I've also found that the prescription nose spray Flonase helps handle the infections and may even keep them from developing. An on-call dr. prescribed it for me once (my own dr. was on maternity leave) along with the Z-Pak and it worked wonders. I don't use it every day, but if I feel sinus problems happening, I use it once every night. I haven't had a single sinus infection this whole winter -- I think that's a record! And neither the Z-Pak or Flonase interact with my anxiety med.

Anyway, I'd go with the advice about going to the doctor and get yourself feeling better! Good luck!! :)

Beauty, go to the Doctor sinus infections are not something to let go. I have had serious sinus problems for years and every time I let it go a day too long I get the worst lecture from my ENT. GO, if for nothing else peace of mind!

Hope you get to feeling better real soon!!

I'd call the doctor. Hope you get better quick, my friend. Take good care of yourself.

There must be some funky correlation of sinus infections and panic attacks - I get both too. Beauty, it sounds like you're dealing with some serious post nasal drip. I know I get that horribly, and cough like crazy at night. Even sleeping elevated doesn't do much. Get to the doc and check it out. At least until then, try some Sudafed Gel Caplets (they're blue), they kinda help me. Good luck. :D

My 16 yr old had the same exact symptoms for two weeks. She went to the dr. two days ago, turns out she has a growth on the back of her throat! Her dr. gave her pills for bronchitis and a mild anesthetic. He also did bloodwork to make sure it isn't anything else more serious. You should go since it wont go away.

The idea of seeing a doctor is enough to give me a panic attack.
HOWEVER, I've been to the doc many times for sinus/throat issues and they never did anything terrible, or found anything awful. The most extreme thing that happened was that my throat was killing me, so they gave me steriods(little tiny pills)
which made the pain stop within hours.

Beth, I'd love 75 degree weather. Everyone here is having fun playing in the snow. I have seen so many snowmen that are taller than houses. I, personally, and not a big fan of playing in the snow, but I'll make the hot cocoa and fresh cookies for when you come in! Hope you went to the Doc and feel better.

I would go to the doctor just to be safe and for some relief. As a matter of fact, I just finished 10 days on an antibiotic for an upper respiratory infection and 12 days of Clarinex. It's improved, but the sinus stuff is still driving me nuts.
