I have been to Disney World at least 50 times in my life, about 5 times a year for the last five years alone. But I have never been to Disneyland. I am going on a cruise this fall with a friend from Vancouver to San Diego. She wants to go home afterwards. I am thinking I am so close to Disneyland I should go for a day or two. But I would be going on my own. Or do you think I should wait and make a whole another trip next year and spend a week in LA and go with friends
. Or maybe just skip Disneyland because it won't measure up to Disney World? Any advise?

There's nothing wrong with going to Disneyland alone, and there's nothing wrong with waiting to go with people. As a first timer, I don't think it matters.

If you decide to never visit Disneyland, that'll be one big mistake. Disneyland is great and the entire resort has more things to do than WDW, park-wise. Disneyland is in great shape and the park is well kept, along with its attractions. Quality vs quantity. Hope you have a great time in California!

Are you kidding? DLR is the original and while I enjoy WDW, I love, love, love DLR.

If you are a Disney fan, you have to go to DLR. It is a different experience than WDW and so worth it. If you're that close, it would be a no brainer to me. I've gone to DLR many times alone. I love meeting new people and using the single rider lines. You need to go for at least 2 days. It will also give you some experience and help you know what to expect if you decide to take a trip later with friends.

What if you go to DLR for a day and that's not enough? What if you go to DL and it makes the MK look like a pile of crap?

I would give yourself at least 2 days, ideally a third to see what you missed. When you get off he cruise ship you are a few blocks to the Amtrak Station. You can take a trains or two commuter trains with a transfer to Anaheim. The Anaheim station is about 10 minutes by bus or cab to the resort.

If you are really a fan, you should not skip your chance.

Well, we love our little park here in SoCal and think it is definitely worth visiting! :thumbsup2

It is different than WDW, but if you have an open mind to experience it, many WDW vets end up loving DL too. ;)

Personally, if I was that close and had the time and money, I would go. Yes. I went to WDW countless times before going to DL, and I still love both.

When I have to go to the LA-area for work and only have a few spare hours in the evening, I still go to at least Downtown Disney to get a disney fix, do some shopping, etc. You can even see the fireworks from there. Or stop by one of the hotels for dinner/drinks. So many options with even just a few hours, of course a few days would be better.

WDW is where it's at, why waste your time with the long-neglected DLR?

Granted, I would always choose DLR for myself, natch, but I'm nutty like that.

GO!!! Disneyland is a total BLAST by yourself! I'm a mommy of three little girls, and while I adore going with them and the hubs, I LOVE going by myself too! You get to do whatever YOU want, whenever YOU want to! 2 days is more than enough time when it's only you.You can do single rider lines and there is no waiting for the rest of your party or lots of potty breaks or excessively long eating time. You will love it! It's like heaven! GO!!!

Go to Disneyland!! Experience the difference! I am a seasoned WDW vet, not as much as you but I have been there at least 20+ times in my adult life and when we went to Disneyland in May it was absolutely not a disappointment! That is why we are going back in October!

First of all, having been to both I do not feel that one is better than the other! They both have a few things that are better than the other but they are different!

Here was my experience:
World of Color was phenomenal! You cannot miss it! We did the dinner package and it was worth it (bring your poncho)! Nothing like it at WDW!

The weather in California is AMAZING! That alone made our experience pleasant!

It was fun to experience the differences in the rides, they are similar but different!

Now that they have Carsland, you can't get that at WDW!

Get parkhoppers! It is so easy to hop from park to park! I never get parkhoppers at WDW because it takes too much time! Very easy to do at DLR!

They don't have the thrill rides like Rocking Rollercoaster or Expedition Everest.

They don't have the amount of dining experiences but they do have amazing restaurants!

It is Disney and you get the same happy feeling at both WDW and DLR! You will not be disappointed!

It is not so easy for us to get to DLR, so if you have an opportunity take advantage of it and go!!!

Yes - DO IT! I just did it two weeks ago and I had the best time! No one to watch over, tell me what they want to do, waiting in line to see all the characters I wanted to see without anyone complaining ... you get the picture. Now I can't wait to do it again!

I'm a WDW vet (almost 30 visits as an adult), but when hubby and I go to SoCal once a year, I don't miss the opportunity to visit DL! And I go alone...he's not a Disney person. I have no problem being by myself because like a poster above, I meet other people, get to go at my pace and use the single-rider lines. A lover of Disney MUST visit the original park, IMO!!:thumbsup2
And, I'll be there again next week!! :cool1:

I think you should! I'm doing something similliar in October when I'll be in San Diego for a conference. Even though it'll be a very short trip, I'm very excited about it! :thumbsup2

Thank you everyone for you comments. I am so excited to go now. I think I will just go for it, at least 2 maybe 3 days!

Hooray! Glad youve been convinced. When I single ridered the E ticket rides on our family trip while my DDs napped at the HoJo with DH, I got SO MUCH done. Plus, you sometimes have special moments, like when a little girl (8 or 9?) single ridered Indy with me. Her grandpa didn't want to ride it, so he escorted her in part-way and waited for her at the exit. She got a little scared since it's a long path in through the exit and asked if she could hold my hand, so I held her hand as we walked. We didn't get to sit together, but afterward we walked out together and she had the biggest smile on her face as she loved the ride. Plus, I felt good knowing I helped reassure her before the ride.

There were also other little moments so it's not like going solo means you get lonely at all. And you can't beat that feeling of freedom to do everything at YOUR pace and on your timeline! Have a great time on the cruise and DLR!
