Should I get my own SunPass Transponder?

I got the E-Pass Uni a year ago. Good in 19 different states. Only $14.95. Also has an app that shows activity, balance, ability to add funds, etc. Completely portable, as it comes with little suction cups to stick to your windshield.

Okay, so I just checked out the visitor's toll pass. This seems like a very good deal.
On the website, it says it works with most rental car companies. Any way to find out if there is one it doesn't work with?
Look at the FAQ page on their website. Rental car companies are listed under one of the questions in the top section. https://visitortollpass.com/Faq

"Visitor Toll Pass™ is currently only able to serve customers who are picking up and dropping off a rental car at the Orlando International Airport."

what then follows on the FAQ is a list of companies at the airport

"Visitor Toll Pass™ currently works with the following rental car companies located in the Orlando International Airport:"

the VTP is basically just a loaner transponder and would work with ANY but since they are only available at the airport for pickup/return . . .

I'm late to the party but thought I'd chime in. We used to always use the Visitor Toll pass service and pick it up in the airport. Last Summer we had two experiences where their systems were down and they were unable to issue the pass we'd reserved. The first trip I used the waze app to avoid all the tolls since it's only to/from the airport we'd be encountering them. When it happened the second time, I drove to the nearest walgreens and bought our own sunpass. I usually use a small piece of tape I can easily remove or the removable strips. You do need to login to the sunpass website to add the vehicle and plate number each trip but they have an option for a rental car so you can set the dates. I prefer knowing I have it and not having to stress about if i'll get charged.

We do have our own UniPass (had Sunpass before). I will say the system and the app are total crap when it comes to adding a "temporary" rental car and then removing it. You have to remove the entire vehicle (my personal one) then add it back later. However when you look at the charges after adding back your own vehicle...it shows them all for my personal license plate instead of the rental. I did check while in Florida that it charged my pass for the rental though, next time will screen shot. No excuse for such a lazy user interface that doesn't show the actual vehicle that was charged for the toll though. Oh and that's of course when I get it to work which can take some time.

I think the old Sunpass system used to let me set a "temporary" rental car and a timeframe. Unipass not so much...but at least it works in my home state (Maryland).

There are two different transponder providers in Florida. Unipass is managed by the Central Florida Expressway Authority (https://www.cfxway.com/ ) while Sunpass is managed by the Florida Department of Transportation ( https://www.sunpass.com/en/home/index.shtml ). Since Sunpass introduced their Sunpass Pro transponder, both Unipass and Sunpass Pro work throughout Florida and all the EZ-Pass states.

The Sunpass Pro web site is much better than the Unipass site, and does permit adding a rental car with dates, just like the old Sunpass site.

Yes the sunpass website was definitely easy on adding a rental car with dates and not needing to remove previous car. I only use it in florida on vacations so i do remove them after each trip though

Thanks for the info...yes the old Sunpass site was so much better. I do use the Unipass at home in Maryland, sparingly but I do have to keep my current vehicle on it. It's not a major hassle to do remove my car/change it when I rent in Florida...more of a nuisance and not enough for me to go through the PITA factor of retuning my Unipass to get a Sunpass. I'm just letting people know who have gone my route (as a former Sunpass user) so they know what to expect. I should have just kept my local EZ Pass now that they are all working together...which was actually out of Virginia. :)
