Should I get a fish? -- Upd, got one at lunch! :)

I only have bad luck with expensive fish... we've seen alot of diseases in the tank over the years...

Now that we have cheap fish, a sebay clown that was $7 and a maroon clown that was $20, we can't seem to get them to die. I really want a plant ledge where the tank is built into the wall. I won't do anything to kill them, but every time I think one of them is getting a fish disease, it gets better. We've had these two nameless fish for about 3 years now.

Every now and then I go up to the tank and threaten to name them. lol

LOL! That's why I'm sticking to the cheap fish. Azzie (Azurite) was only $4 (plus supplies).

Tammi, congrats on the new fish. My last one was a feeder fish that I rescued from Luis' roommate's piranha in college. He lived quite some time and my cats loved him Seriously they had a lot of fun watching him, but turthfully Buddy was in no danger at all. As long as they have a secure lid (like on a 10 gallon tank) they will be fine (in case you ever want some at home).

While I think it would be nice to have one/some at home, my DH hateshateshates aquariums so won't let me have one. So it's Azzie at the office only (that's what I've named him: Azurite, aka Azzie, because of his coloring)

One of the problems with the fishies at the store in cups is they don't have enough oxygen (amonia build up). They aren't fed enough either (once a day, which is better than nothing, but bettas do better being fed more often)

I bet when you get your new friend into his larger living space, you'll be suprised at how much he swims around. My fish sleeps sometimes so he doesn't react all of the time, but he does seem more active then when he lived in a cup.

The other thing to look out for is a "bubble nest." When male bettas are happy and healthy they blow bubbles that stick to the edges of the bowl. This means they want to mate. The bubbles serve as a place to store the eggs.
