Should I downgrade?

Hi all,

I am currently at Port Orleans French Quarter. I got a good rate using a discount code.

Just recently, I finally got my (IATAN - travel agent discount card) through my work. I can get a better rate w/ the card however they only have All Star Music, All Star Sports and the Polynesian available.

We have stayed at the All Star Music twice before and we have two girls so Sports wouldn't be an option. It is a really good price - about $350 savings compared to Port Orleans. The Polynesian was also a good rate but I'm not a big fan of that hotel as a deluxe (sorry poly fans). I stayed there too many times with my parents when I was growing up - and it is depressing that the Poly is as old as I am! How did that happen!

So now I am second guessing my decision to stay at Port Orleans. Should I switch my ressie in the name of saving money? Or stay at Port Orleans. I already feel like I have downgraded at this point b/c I wanted the Wilderness Lodge and that wasn't available with the discount code. DH has left the decision up to me but has resorted to blackmailing me if he winds up at All Star Music again. (He wants to go to Sea World for a precious day of our trip! The nerve!)

Disney Reservations has advised I may call to see if rooms become available at a moderate resort or god willing, Wilderness Lodge, but didn't offer much hope.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Ohhh, that's a hard one. $350 is a good chunck of change and you could do lots of extras with it...water mice rentals, an Illuminations cruise, bike around the Boardwalk. You could do a pro and con list. POFQ is FRESHLY refurbished, about 60 sq ft bigger and a much more relaxing atmosphere. Are you run wild at the parks, go go go people? If so that $$ could be spent on more fun activities. But if you like to spend some down time at your resort POFQ would fit the bill....plus walk along the river, take the boat to DTD, it also has a lounge/bar to relax in when the kids are tucked safely in their beds. I haven't seen the pools at Music and Sports, but assume it's like Movies. The POFQ pool has a slide. ALso, POFQ has coffee maker, iron and ironing board in the rooms.

BTW, I'll be checking into POFQ in a little over two weeks, for my first visit!

Why would you stay at Port Orleans.....or a mere Value resort when the Polynesian is available? Maybe it's just me.

Well, if you're one of those who doesn't like the monorail resorts, I'd definitely choose Port Orleans over ANY All Stars......any day......no matter what the price. There's not near-the-"Magic" at the Values that you can find at the others.

This is what Jennifer said earlier...if you didn't read her post.

THAT'S why I recommended Port Orleans......if you would've read the rest of my post.

Try a dose of you own advise.

And Katiebug......no offense taken.

I feel the extra $ is worth it to stay at the moderates: Water Slides. Hot Tubs. Less "in your face" theming. Larger rooms. Etc. That's why I am staying at CSR & not the All-Stars. But as ibouncetoo suggested, you should make a list of YOUR pros & cons, then see what weighs more. Every body is different, hence the many and ever growing number of resorts. :p

Do you mean that the Poly was going to be cheaper than a moderate? Wow - I <i>am</i> a poly fan, and I'd better call my travel agent SIL! For me it's all about location.

For our family, the resorts are just an extension of the parks -- so it's not just a place to sleep. I guess you should think about how much time you'll spend there.

Katiebug,

I suggest you keep calling.

As for the choice of downgrading, it would depend on what was more important to me. Just my thoughts.

Why don't you split your stay??? I was booked at AKL for my whole trip but then got a post card for a really good rate at a value. I have never been to WDW so I thought what the heck, I will experience the best of both worlds and save a bit ::yes:: I am staying at ASMO 2 nights and AKL 5 nights, but I am still saving over $300, so I think it will be worth it. More money for stuff!

Hi!

No Poly was not cheaper than a moderate, but it was better than it usually is ($200 a night).

I'm going to keep trying to get a lower rate for the moderates and keep what I have for now (which is $95 per night at Port Orleans French Quarter).

DH and I both agree we won't be happy at the All Stars again. Poly was a good rate but I don't want to pay more. My other option is $150 per night at the Hard Rock. We're considering that but really don't want to pay more than $100 per night.

Thanks for your input,

Jennifer

We really like POFQ (and POR, for that matter) and so do my kids, 14 and 5. The boat ride to Downtown Disney is a must do, especially for the 5 year old. We stayed at All star sports the first time we went, and my husband will never go back to a value.

Katiebug, check your PMs. I have info (possibly) re: rates for you.
