My school does a program ' Every 15 minutes ' every two years. The program shows students what could happen if you drink and drive. I found out that a teacher or another staff member requested me to participate in this as a 'victim' for next years 15 minute program. This would mean that they would essentially dress me up to make me appear dead or badly injured with a bunch of other students, create a car crash scene, take us too the hospital and the whole bit. The entire school comes out and watches the 'car crash', they watch their friends or loved ones go away in body bags, or in an ambulance/helocopter to the hospital. Then.. all who participiate 'disappear' for two days, we can't have any outside contact with the world. They put us up in a hotel for two days, without the use of phones or computers.. no way to contact anybody outside of our hotel. They put us through programs and such and show us what it is like to be past the legal drinking limit through 'drunk glasses' and other things like that. Yet while we are in this hotel to the rest of the world we are 'dead.' When we come back to school we present a speech at an assembly, we tell them what it was like for us to not have any contact with our family or friends, what it was like to essentially die. We tell the student body what it was like for our families to have to see us 'die' to have to hear about us 'die' and to have to live with not being able to contact us for two days.
Should I participate?
Should I participate?
Im deciding to do it, just because I think it is a good experience for me. Let me just put this out here and say that I don't even have my lisence yet.. my parents are actually begging ME to get my permit...
Hah. I really haven't had the interest to drive, I don't go to any sort of parties... what's the point when I know for a fact there will be drinking or something of that sort at those sorts of things. I don't do 'anything' that would be considered to be something that someone who not only drinks but then gets behind the wheel of a car would sterotipically (sp?) do. I find drinking horrid and never plan on drinking. I realize many people find it fine to have a few drinks when they are old enough, but from the results I have seen, why even take the risk? A few years ago our school did in fact loose three amazing students to drinking and driving, the man behind the wheel lived and had to live with the fact that he killed his best friends. It makes me want to cry every time i think of that story.
I am going to do this program just to give myself more reason not to drink, and to NEVER in any means drive under the influence of alchol or let anybody else drive under the influence.
