My husband and I currently have 2 houses which we are paying on monthly along with credit cards, loans, and utilities. We don't even live in the other house and he's supposed to have been getting the other one to sell...that's a whole other story. Anyway, I read a Dave Ramsey book a couple years ago and used the debt snowball and that worked really good. However, right now we don't have that much extra money lying around anymore but I so severely want to get out of debt. For those of you who have taken the FPU course would it be worth it for us to do this online since we don't much extra income or wait until we sell the other house. Or, should I just do the debt snowball thing again. Thanks for any advice!

I don't think FPU on line will be much help if you don't have any extra to put towards the debt. Can you get one of his books from the library to give you added motivation? If so, I'd do that and apply the $$ you would have spent on FPU toward your debt.

Do you feel like you need to go through the FPU program for knowledge, or for motivation and support?

I definitely think seminars and classes can be motivating, although I'm not sure you'd get that same feel with online courses. I understand folks on the Ramsey boards can be ruthless and will gladly try to whip you into shape if you post questions or concerns there though.

But if finances are tight, and you're already motivated, the PP is right. You can certainly access Dave Ramsey info for free, or for a much lower cost than paying for the full FPU program. It's pretty common sense stuff.

Good Luck!

My wife and I went through FPU a couple of years ago and loved it. If it were me, I would find somewhere locally that offers FPU and take it there. It sounds like, at the very least, you can use the encouragement that would come from the small group time at FPU.

Everything you need to work DR's plan can be found in his books. Is your DH on board with the plan? If not, then I would suggest doing FP classes in person together. I haven't looked lately, but I thought the online cost the same as the classes.
