Should I choose HOJOs or Park Vue Inn?

Thanks, We are also staying in the suite...ours is a little more, 168.00 We are staying in June also for 8 days. I have 5 kids ages 12-26 and we are planning on breakfast and light eve meal at the hotel to ease the food budget! Since we are close enough for lunches and an afternoon break or swim, we will order groceries for lunches from Vons.
Last year I stayed at Homewood Suites. It is less $ but had to add in ART for 5 for a week plus had to cook some dinners (not in the plan this year for sure!!!).
We really wanted to be up close and personal so I'm excited for the PVI!

OH, good idea about the grocery delivery! We will have a vehicle, but we will be coming from Utah that day and would prefer not to waste precious time on grocery shopping. We had groceries delivered when we were at POR at DW last year but didn't even think about for DL. Thanks!!!

Thank you Staley 7580 for your post. I too have booked at the PVI for July and really appreciate the "real" reviews from "real" families on what it is like. I agree with another poster, it is very confusing and frustrating to try and book somewhere when you haven't stayed there yourself!! Thanks to all for your opinions, it makes booking a trip so much easier!!

Ok I saw this thread and wanted to pipe in and give you some info.
My long time friend (we have been friends since 1st grade and were in our mid 30's now) and her family just went to Dinseyland 4/6/2011 - 4/08/2011 for her daughters 5th birthday and 1st visit ever to Disneyland. I had recommended Park Vue to her from past experiences and due to the breakfast and light dinner plus the cost.
My friend and her family got to the hotel early on 4/6 and checked in however did not get the room as it was still to early in the day so they ventured into the parks and spent the day and their evening doing the parks and dinner etc.
Later that evening they made their way back to the hotel to get their room and unload their luggage (they got a queen/bunkbed room).
They all unloaded their bags got the kids down and went to bed. My friend said she got up at about 11:30 pm to go to the bathroom and ended up seeing many cockroaches just crawling around......Im not sure when but she ended up getting some pictures of them...soooooo gross! Anyhow she did call the front desk right away and the agreed to move her however gave her grief about it...not too mention she had to wake up her 5 year old 4 month old and 15 year old son as well as pack up all their belongings to take them to another room. The staff told her they would work something out for her the next day, however they never did and gave her grief and told her that they have never had a complaint before about bugs. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Anyhow I guess she ended up reporting this to the health department.

I have never had problems with Park Vue in the past however my friend very recently did and it was gross to see the cockroaches, so even though this may be an isolated situation I thought you may want to know seeing as how you ar considering staying at Park Vue.

Unfortunately cockroaches are not uncommon in Calif. Its unfortunate that this happened during their vacation but thats one of those things that can happen anywhere! I am still planning on keeping our reservations and am determined to not let anything ruin our trip LOL :)

I hear you. Its just some people get a bit more freaked out about those kinds of things where others can roll with it.
I dont blame you an keeping your ressies...location is great, price is great, offereings are great.
For me just knowing there are critters moving around would be a ticket for no sleep as I would feel itchy and creeped out...plus if I woke up in the middle of the night and a bug happend to be very near me I would freak out so bad it would be like a wake up call for the entire hotel LOL
Most of the time my family and I will stay onsite anyhow between the GCH and DLH and Im yet to see a critter in either of them and hope I never do cause it will give me those creepy chills :scared1:

Ooh, yuck! Thank you so much for posting. What disturbs me ALMOST as much is that they denied ever having them and then gave her a hard time - not good customer service. I wonder why they have a problem there!!!? I don't want to have my head in the sand before I decide completely so I appreciate any and all info!!!

Oh, and good for your friend for reporting it to the health department!! I hope she posts to tripadvisor too, so people know before they book there. Still not sure what I'll do but am glad to know. Thanks!

Oh you know I never thought about tripadvisor. I will have to let her know so that she can do that.
Good luck with your picking and I am sure whatever choice you make will be right for you....and lets face it its Disneyland so your going to have a blast!

OP here. Oh my Lord, I've spent so many hours looking at reviews!!! Just wanted to let everyone know that I booked the premium room at CCI. I LOVED the room and kitchen at PVI amongst many other things, but I just can't have any doubt about those dang roaches and the manager's response to it. I did find the bed bug thread on CCI, but strangely didn't feel that doubt that I had with PVI. Again, I'll still be waiting to see if there's an ent rate at HOJOs, but like the shuttle and complimentary breakfast at CCI.

I bet my stay at PVI would have been great. Such a great location and everything included in the room rate. I'm just being silly and OCD. Thanks so much for all the posts. :goodvibes

YUCK!!!!! I recall reading about cockraoches before at PVI and have always - ALWAYS - been too concerned about it to ever try to stay there, despite positive reviews by some on the DISboards.

My advice to those who are already booked and need to stay there is to try to at least leave the bathroom light on all during the night, to at least try to deter the roaches from coming out in the deep dark night and crawling over you while sleeping, if there are any in your room. I don't know if this will help, but it makes me feel better to think of that.

Roaches don't seem to be a problem in Anaheim, so finding them there indicates lack of cleanliness to me.

We've never yet seen any insects in a Hojo room, so we will make it a point to continue staying there.

It was very good that your friend took pics. I really feel for her!!!

I'm surprised to hear about roaches at PVI. Everyone in my family stays there when they go and in dozens of trips between us no one has ever seen a roach. Heck we used to stay there 20+ years ago when it was a questionable, run-down dumpy place, and never saw roaches lol.

From what I have seen, and from speaking with the manager, they are going out of their way to try and be the best off site hotel. They really want to be #1 and are doing what they can to get there. I'd think they would deal with any kind of bug problem immediately. I was surprised to hear about the response from management too. When we were there in February the manager was out talking to people at the social hour every day and if anyone even had the slightest complaint about anything he went out of his way to immediately rectify it.

We loved the Park Vue Inn!! :lovestruc We just got back on April 7th and we stayed in a Queen/Bunk ( a family of 4 ) I thought the room was plenty big enough for us. The room was very clean and I like how they make the beds with the sheets around the blanket. The shower pressure was great, like someone else said and plenty of hot water. We liked the breakfast/lite dinner and all the free water bottles at the front desk. That really helped the budget! Also we were so close to the crosswalk to Disneyland, It was so easy to go back and forth for rests. My family and I want to stay there again!! :thumbsup2 I was really surprised to hear about the roaches! :confused3

Really glad you had a good time!! And good to know that the roach incidents are pretty rare.
