Should I change from Paradise Pier to Grand Californian?

Okay, what do you all think?

I've got a reservation in December for the Paradise Pier hotel and I'm thinking about upgrading to the Grand Californian. It would cost an extra $100 per night, and we could take advantage of the 4th night free deal.

DH and I stayed at the Grand Californian in September for the first time and we absolutely loved it. I wished we had spent more time around the hotel and I can't wait to go back.

We booked the Paradise Pier a few months ago before we had tried the Grand Californian and now I'm worried that I'll just be disappointed if I stay at the Paradise Pier.

So, would you change the reservation and why?

I would stay. Its a different theme and you should experiance it. Then stay at Disneyland Hotel and on your 4th trip, you would know which one to stay at :P

If I could afford it, I'd upgrade to GC in a minute. If for nothing else, the walk alone would be reason for me. The ambiance at X-mas time would prob. be GREAT at the GC, too. Back entrance into DCA. I believe they have more updated/nicer rooms, too. For us, an extra $300 tacked on to a trip would mean us not going, frankly, so we wouldn't be able to do it, but if you CAN and it wouldn't hurt you, then I most definitely would do it.

The main reason I prefer the GCH is the proximity to the park, allowing us to go back to the hotel numerous times if needed. If you don't mind the extra little walk, our family absolutely loves PP.

I've stayed at both and love both. Having been to both, I'd pick GC in December for the decor and PP most other times of the year. If you plan on staying at PP on a future trip, I'd say to "upgrade" to GC this time.

My family and I have stayed at both as well. There are a lot more amenities at the GCH than PP. Not saying that PP wasn’t great which it is, but if you had the opportunity, take GCH, especially during the holidays. We stayed at the CGH for our anniversary, and it was great. We had a room that overlooked the rapids and could eat on a balcony overlooking the park. It was great. If you have kids, I'd suggest the concierge lounge. They have food there pretty much all day long and have movies playing all day. The difference in the two hotels is definitely noticeable.
