Should I cancel my daddy daughter trip?

I'm driving down to Orlando Wednesday (leaving Sunday) with my 2 year old daughter for a few days at the parks. As noted in a few other threads, the weather looks horrible (not just the normal afternoon rain). If it was just me I'd wear a rain jacket and be glad the lines are short. However with a 2 year old its not as easy. Keeping her dry and happy won't be as easy. A lot of the things she would like such as the shows and parades might be cancelled. The worst part is that I had to do a split stay at All Star Music and the Dolphin because of room availability. So now I will be out 2 deposits. My work schedule isn't flexible enough to really move my dates. Any advice on keeping a 2 year old happy in rain? Should I just cancel and save myself the hassle. Over Thanksgiving we went to Amelia Island and it rained the whole time. We sent a lot of money to sit in an expensive hotel room and she got bored quickly. I'd like to avoid that situation again.

It is almost certainly not going to rain the whole time. Last I checked the forecast is pretty normal for this time of year. And that means that it could be storming at MK but just fine at AK. And it might only be for an hour each day.

Outlier weather does happen, where it’s nonstop, but don’t assume that it’ll be like that. Assume that this is simply normal FL weather for this time of year.

Bring a cute little poncho, get her rain boots, bring a bunch of extra clothes in ziptop bags to go in your park backpack, and have fun.


And gosh even if you want to sit out the parks a little bit, isn’t being at the resorts you’re planning on (don’t just sit in a hotel room) better than being at home????

Bring a stroller and buy a stroller rain cover. Our kids have always stayed dry under one. Most of the attractions and queues are indoors. I have 4 kids and some of our favorite memories have been in the rain (no crowds). At Animal Kingdom, see the Nemo and Lion King shows, and go on the Na’vi ride. Hollywood studios is really good in the rain because of the small area and all the shows. I would go, bring ponchos and umbrellas, and have a great time. Just do a little research first on indoor attractions and plan out what you’ll do.

Bring a towel - maybe one of those quick-dry kind? - because the outdoor rides like Dumbo, Aladdin, Jungle Cruise will have wet seats. Learned that on our last trip... But, if you have a poncho or something plastic, you can put that on the seat and sit on it. That's assuming the rain stopped If it's still raining, just be aware that the seats are wet unless you have a long poncho.

The kid in the stroller was always the driest one in the group. They were completely covered in the stroller under the rain cover. Make sure to cover the stroller with the rain cover when you leave it at the stroller parking too.

I haven’t looked at the forecast specifically but our news this AM did mention a “tropical system hanging out over Florida this week” - or something along those lines. Even here is supposed to be an off/on soggy/cloudy week.

OP - Often rain keeps the crowds lower. Obviously not ideal conditions at all if you do end up with a lot of rain, but I’d stay the course and keep your trip. Granted easier said than done with a 2 year old, but we’ve had some great rainy days at WDW. Secretly, part of me would rather tour the parks with a light rain vs beaming sunshine.

I was wondering the same thing.

I’ve had experiences where it’s raining in Frontierland when we exited BTMR and 15 minutes later the ground was completely dry on Main Street as we left.

I thought the forecast seemed normal for Florida as well.

Weather was showing lots of rain, and throughout many days, not the usual late afternoon thunderstorms. We've only encountered this exact weather pattern once in over 20 yrs of visiting. And it was June of last year. The rain would start around 10 am, and just rain all day. We're very used to the 4 pm showers, but this all day stuff definitely impacted our vacation. Our shoes were soaked, and never really had a chance to dry. Even my Tevas stayed wet, and going in and out of air conditioning just made us stay really chilled.

I would go - as pp's mentioned get a good rain cover for the stroller and a raincoat, maybe a hat and some sandals and bring a change of clothing for your dd just in case. Most of the attractions are inside so there is always lots to do even in the rain - some of our favorite days were those rainy days.

Just plan for the weather - and have a great time!

I toured WDW on my own with DS when he was 4 during Tropical Storm Debby. Was it our best trip? No! Did we still do a lot? Yes!! EP FW is your friend (and parts of WS, too). So much of FW is inside. You can spend quite a bit of time in the Seas pavilion, all of the rides are inside (including FEA and Gran Fiesta in WS), the movies in China, France and Canada, you could go see Spectaculab and the Glidden activity in Innoventions. You can still see Nemo and Lion King in AK, Disney Jr., TSMM at DHS, the indoor rides at MK. We had a really good rain cover for the stroller. No, it's not ideal, but, personally, I would go instead of losing those deposits. Hopefully it won't rain nonstop.

Get a rain cover for the stroller. Bring a lightweight rain jacket and rain boots. A two year old will love jumping in puddles.

This is not just the typical rain. There is a front coming thru.
That being said... don’t cancel, just be prepared
Xtra set of clothes in a ziploc, some special rain boots and rain poncho, small towel from room ( to wipe ride seats and humans lol)
Snacks and drink boxes so ur not running xtra to track them down. A little sweater/jacket for each of u... nothing like dampness and cool ac to give a chill, xtra pairs of shoes in the suitcase, downtime fun( crayons/special book etc)
You ll have a wonderful time..

I would gear up and go. There are plenty of rides especially at MK that are indoors plus all character meet n greets are mostly indoors at MK. HS & AK have indoors shows.

Maybe book a character meal or do a monorail ride. There is a scavenger hunt for Flower and Garden you can do or do the pirate adventures or sorcerers of the kingdom at MK or Agent P/Kidcot at Epcot or Wilderness Explorers at AK

My sister and I. We were like 10 and 5 but we were having a wonderful time in the rain.

IMHO family time is too precious to get all worked up about the weather. Take your daughter and make some wonderful memories that she (well, both of you) will treasure when they are all she has.
