I am wanting to add a day to the front end of our camping trip in Oct. I check the website multiple times a day for availability. Should I call to see if the day I need has availability? I did not know if the cast member would see something different than I do.

Welcome HAW,
In my opinion: yes

My upcoming trip in november started off as 7 days. I started trying to add on and after a week of online negatives I said "what the heck" and called. Got 1 day added on both front and back of trip just like that. Just seems like online is not very UTD.
May not work, but I prefer to call someone in person when booking sites. Just seems to always work better.

Best of luck to you,

Thank you for the quick reply.

This is our first camping trip to Disney and we are very excited! I keep wanting to add days to get as much in as possible.

Welcome to the Fort. The folks on this board are very helpful. People like BamaEd, 2Goofycampers, Rustyskupper, and too many others to mention are good sources of info. If you have more questions feel free to ask.

There are several threads that show site pics and pics of the day with folks like Ynottony who can give you a good perspective of how things look and what to expect.

I had a similar experience as TiggerDad, so I would definitely call. We were able to get some extra days tacked on.

Well, I just tried with no luck adding a day. I will just keep trying everyday and hopefully something will open up. I figure the closer I get to the check in date the better luck I will have since you are supposed to cancel five days before your check in date. I can't wait to visit the campground. I have been stalking this board for a while now. It has been the best source of information I have been able to find. I even talked my husband into making a Mickey Lamp after I saw it on this board!! And that is saying something. He is not a Disney guy, but he loves to go camping. So Ft. Wilderness is a great compromise.

I have had the best luck calling at 700AM Eastern....sharp!

Out of curiosity, HAW, what's the date you are trying to add? That time of year the weekends (Friday and Saturday nights) are usually pretty full because the weather is so nice and folks/locals come in for the weekends. Also the dates leading up to Halloween would be busy too.

Cancellations happen all the time so don't give up.

I am trying to get Friday, Oct 10th. Since that is Columbus Day weekend it may be a long shot. We have decided to let our DD skip school that day so we could have a full day on Saturday. I have made a reservation at a KOA close to WDW for Friday night in case nothing becomes available.

I was able to add 10/10 a couple of weeks ago. I was checking website everyday and it showed up one morning.
So don't give up!!!

I've also done the "close to" thing the night before and that worked well for us.

We stayed at Lake Louisa State Park on Hwy 27 just south of Clermont which is to the west of WDW - it has a nice simple camground. It's 30 minutes to the Fort from there (you pass a Super Wal-Mart in Clermont before you get to LLSP which is a good place to load up with groceries if you need them before getting to the Fort). It's about $25 a night.

Since FW allows check-ins as early as 630 am, you can arrive early on Sat Oct 11 and still accomplish a full day as if you came in late the night before. If you end up doing this, make sure you specify what time you will be arriving early when doing the advance online check-in. Even if a site isn't ready, you can stash the TV and trailer in the overflow area of the parking lot, do all the check-in, and hit the parks, etc if you want. Disney will text you your site number when it is available so you can come back and spot the trailer at your leisure.

All that being said, keep trying. :goodvibes
