Should I buy Pal Mickey? Where should I buy him?

I"m debating buying a Pal Mickey for my next Disney trip in September. I resisted the urge to get him during my trip in May, but here I am thinking about him again! I will be traveling with DH, DS (19 months old), my mom, and her friend (a Disney newbie). So, do you think I should get Pal Mickey to join us?

If I do decide to buy one, where can I get the best deal? I don't even need a new one as long as it works! Any suggestions? Thanks!

There are two models of PM (and they both work in all parks).

PM "Classic" (that's what I call MINE).

PM "50th Anniversay Special Edition" (newer version). He comes dressed in a TUXEDO.

If the ones you see on eBay are NOT dressed in a tuxedo, they are the older "classic" version.

The older PM's where $50 when new (but where heavily discounted when the newer ones came out, say, to below $20) but they are not available from Disney anymore.

The 50th Anniversay PM's are about $70 now at WDW.

But there is not really a LOT of difference between them, except:

New PM talks a bit louder.

New PM can describe the few newer attractions that weren't open when the "classic" PM was first introduced. (Not a big deal.)

New PM has a slightly larger "library" of things he can say (and sing!)

>>>
Just a word (I have not seen anything "official" yet)...
New PM... just MIGHT become a "Classic" himself, if they issue a "PM v.3" as the "50th Anniversary" draws to a close.

pal mickey is really helpful it was $60 and if u want u can rent it for $8 a day.
it keeps kids occupied at parks and works out of disney (tells jokes and plays games)

Rental Pal Mickeys (and $60 price) are long gone, I'm afraid.

Buying him new or used are the choices these days.

I'm planning on buying one but I'm going to wait until I'm there in October in case there is a new one for the Year of a Million Dreams. I don't really want the Tux. I'd rather have a classic Mickey but in the new, louder, version.

Thanks Robo for the helpful info. I've been debating the pal mickey purchase too. Think I'll also wait and see if a new one is released.

Please don't let me sound as if I am destroying the "magic", but it really is just another thing to lug around on your vacation. We have ours next to the hundred or so dolls my DW has accumulated. No one wants to lug it, so it stays home.
I found it did not have any earth shattering news to give up, and when I queried, it would not dish dirt on anyone! Travel light. You'll have enough to carry for your child.

I always travel light and don't have kids to worry about (other than my teenaged nephews whom I am taking in October.) I want one for me! I figure since I don't carry much anyway I'll carry him clipped to my belt loop or something.

Same here.

Our Classic Pal has ridden around clipped to my shirt collar (at the "V" of the neck) for MANY trips, MANY days since we "adopted him" that first year he was available.

I usually tell folks he's PULLING me around the park.

He really does have some cute things to say about certain attractions.
He is very frightened as you approach the ToT... but if you DO ride it, he let's you know afterward he does NOT want to go again.
He doesn't want to get WET and says to protect him when about to board Splash and Kali.
He even has something to say INSIDE the HM and another attraction or two.

I don't want to spoil these things... just let you know that if you pay attention to him (squeeze him after he giggles), he does have a lot to say!

I bought my classic Pal Mickey on Ebay before our trip last October. I love carrying him around and the kids love him also. He isn't that big that it is alot to "lug" around. He adds helpful tips about short lines. I think it was money well spent and would consider buying a new version if it comes out.

I wouldn't really have to lug him because I'll have my stroller along anyway. I can always clip him to that if he's too much to "lug". Perhaps someone here is finished with their pal Mickey and wants to unload him for a reasonable price???

Sure!

I'd consider a trade.

How old is the principal rider in your stroller?
