We took the tour last week while we were in Orlando and now need to decide whether to buy in. Would like to know from current owner's if they are happy with their decision and whether or not they would do it again? We have not looked into other timeshares well enough to know if this is a good decision. :confused3

ilovepooh sent you to a great thread that should help.

When we decided to buy we did no comparison to other timeshares. It came down to the fact that we only want to stay on property and this was a great way to do so for many years to come.

If staying on property is not that important to you, then maybe you should investigate other options.

Welcome to the DIS boards!
I remember feeling as you do. We bought without doing any comparison shopping (very unlike us) and without having done any research on DVC. We love WDW and have added on multiple times since our initial purchase. If you are not comfortable, keep reading this board, and this board and also this board. You will learn lots. Good luck!

We officially bought in the August prior to SSR opening and did so without any other comparisons. Since then we have purchased another small timeshare and use each every other year. DVC in the odd years and WM in the even years. Great change of pace plus it gives us double the points each time we go. Definitely great for our needs.

I was considering a small contract, and I am VERY glad I did not buy yet. With the CVC/AKL rumors I think I'll hold off until I can buy at one of these instead of SSR.

The rumors are that there will be a new DVC resort-either at the Contemporary or at Animal Kingdom lodge. These are all rumors BTW, nothing official has been released as of yet, and may not be until SSR is sold out.
I just bought at SSR in May and I have NO regrets. I am a Disney Freak and purchased so I can stay there more often in a higher quality resort. So far, I've stayed at Vero Beach and OKW and will be staying at Hilton Head in Sept, SSR in November and December. I've been very pleased so far with the resorts.
If you are considering it to stay places other than DVC resorts, it might not be the right thing for you. From what I've seen, the best value per point is the DVC resorts.

We are happy with DVC but have some concerns which include:
1. Not sure we would buy now - I question the value at $100 per point vs. other options.
2. Don't care for SSR at all. Rumors about new sites are a + but I think SSR will evolve even more into a cheap (resale price and dues) entry into DVC putting more and more pressure on the rest on the system (they are just starting to sell the final six building).
3. While it makes sense that dues should move with inflation over time, the same can't be said for deluxe rooms. Pricing there is driven by demand which is more difficult to forecast. The risk is that dues increase faster than comperable room rates, eroding the value of DVC over time.

I expect that once they announce what is next there will be significant incentives offered to sell out SSR. Even if you want SSR I would wait.

If, and I preface this with if, you wish to stay at one of the EPCOT resorts or VWL on a regular basis (or OKW, for that matter), then you are well advised to buy where you want to stay.

You should have absolutely no problem buying anywhere except BCV, although you might have to wait a couple of weeks or months.

Don't let a salesman sell you a resort. You pick your resort.

If you love all things Disney and plan on going to Disney at least once every year or two and stay in Deluxe then DVC is a great deal. We love it, have from the first moment.

Do not over complicate the process. If you find you have made a mistake, it is relatively easy to sell the points and most likely at or near your cost. Just buy a small amount to test the waters if you fit the above criteria. As others have said, there are tons of posts. Read them all and then trust your instinct.

Good luck,

We live in So Cal; we make two trips to WDW a year. We would buy again; and are planning to add on soon!

Back in teh early 90's soon after DVC was started, we were interested in it, but weren't sure. We finally took the tour in '94 and still "weren't sure" because of being skeptical of all timeshares. Then we decided to tour a few more timeshares to see what the deal was. It turned out we could tell after just one tour of a different timeshare how truly unique DVC was. We knew the only place we wanted to be going back to year after year was WDW, so it was a no-brainer. We have been members at OKW since '97, and it's possibly the best thing we ever did with a chunk of money other than build a house or buy a car.

Hello,
We have been members since 1996 and couldn't be happier. We bought in before we had children so that we could afford to bring them to Disney every year. We started with the minimum of 150 and as the years went along continued to add points , We currently have pnts at OKW and BW and also BCV . We usually go once a year and stay in a 2BD for about 10 to 12 days. or we do a 6 day land and Sea Combination.
You cannot beat the accomadations. We are able to eat in for some of our meals and not have to spend the money eating out every meal
. We have laundry facility in our room so that helps with packing. I can't say enough about it as you can see.
It has been a completely positive expierience... and if you get sick of Disney you can use your points on cruises or other hotels around the US and overseas.
Hope this helps :cheer2:
