Should I Buy A Mac?

When dd was looking for a laptop for college, and said she wanted a Mac, I came to the boards for advice. It was very similar to what the advice you are getting. She got a Mac. Her sister got a Mac. I have her old Mac. Although I am not as comfortable with the programs as I am with a PC, I really haven't made an effort to use them. Both dds say the Macs are much easier to use.

I would go with the Mac. :)

Yes.
My first MacBook lasted me 10, yes 10, years. The only time I had to take it in, was to have the airport card installed. That's how old it was!
When it did eventually pass on, I borrowed my father's loner MacBook until I could afford a new one. I had the money for a regular laptop but, it wasn't what I wanted. So, I saved. And in the meantime, DFi convinced me to pay the extra for the MacBook Pro. I love my Mac. Yes, I paid a pretty penny for it but, it will outlast several other laptops. :)

You CAN right click the Mac mouse. I do it all the time. So that shouldn't be a concern at all

Oh I know that there are ways of doing everything, it will just take time to learn... It won't stop me! I'm getting a MacBook Pro in the next couple months come heck or high water!

I'm an IT Professional and are 99% Windows at work.

For home, I switched to Mac and as they say "once you go Mac, you'll never go back"... ;)

I agree with the posters above and what Pete as said, the lifespan of a Mac is much longer than a PC/Windows. With a PC, after 2 years I'm thinking of replacing at the 3 year mark. My Mac is 2.5 years old and I can easily see it going for a good few more years. It runs just as well today as it did when I got it.

I have 1 app I need Windows for so I use Fusion and launch a virtual XP machine - it runs faster than it ever did on my Dell.

Just some thoughts for those on the fence due to the cost of a Mac.

Another thought ...

No pun intended, but you need to make sure you're not comparing apples to oranges.

If you compare the cost of any Apple computer to something on the shelves at Best Buy, 99% of the time, the PC is going to be cheaper. What you need to do is match the specs, and as close as possible, the components. In other words, match sound card to sound card, graphics card to graphics card, etc.

When you do this at a manufacturer such as Dell or Lenovo, you find out that macs aren't really that much more expensive (if not a little cheaper).
