I have more or less been given the green light by the wife to splash out on the holiday next year. Well, she said 'we must make it special' but that's close enough for me!

I have also been fortunate enough to get a new job with a huge pay rise. :yay:

Back in 1994, we went to WDW on honeymoon. We did it cheaply, staying offsite (the hotel we stayed in in Kissimmee doesn't even exist anymore!), but we popped into the Polynesian resort to see what a Disney hotel looked like. The front desk even gave us a room key to use for the afternoon when we said we were just looking around to see if we would like to stay there on our next holiday. After looking round, we said if we ever came back to Disney, we would stay onsite, and the Poly if we could afford it. The Poly just cries out to us 'this is a Disney hotel'. Staying at one of the original monorail resorts just seems special.

Well, that 'next time' is finally coming round. And my original plan of 7 nights at RPR followed by 13 nights onsite somewhere like POFQ can be improved upon now. So I started looking at the Poly again. But the prices are coming out so steep, that I'm not sure I can bring myself to book there (even though we can afford it). The alternative would probably be the Beach Club, which I like the look of because of the swimming pool which my son would love, and the fact you can just walk to EPCOT and Boardwalk is a plus. It is over a grand cheaper too.

Furthermore, many of the reviews I have been reading on Tripadvisor recently for the Poly don't paint it in a very good light.

So I would welcome any views on what you guys and gals think, especially if you have been there (or to the BC) - should I book the Poly, or isn't it worth the extra?

To try to salve my conscience a bit, I even started to look for ways to stay at the Poly, but make it a bit cheaper. One solution would be to stay 6 nights at the Doubletree Hilton Sea World (we are intending to do 2 days at Sea World, Discovery Cove, Aquatica, and the Space Centre, so that seems a good cheap base for that), followed by 4 nights at RPR to do Universal, then finishing off with 11 nights at the Poly. That's a lot of hotel hopping, but we did 3 hotels in 10 nights last year when we did Chessington, London and DLP and it was the best holiday we've ever had.

My thoughts are if you can afford, go for it. :thumbsup2

Enjoy life. We're a long time dead!

This is always a difficut decision to make. We, wife and son, loved the Poly. We stayed for 5 nights in 2009 in December. We absolutely loved it. We were also upgraded to Concierge for free!! We loved the setting, watching the fireworks from the beach. The pool was great and the location wonderful.
This year we have rebooked for Wilderness Lodge. Again its expensive but this will probably be our last time for some years so, what the hell! Go for it.:thumbsup2:banana::banana:

If you can afford it, I would not settle for second best.

You sound like you want to take the plunge but your pay rise is still quite novel, so you are hesitating because of the cost. It also sounds like staying at the Poly would be realising a dream from your last visit - just go for it.:thumbsup2

We stayed at the Poly in 2007. The location cannot be faulted, especially if you plan lots of trips to MK and Epcot. As already said, if you can afford it, even for a week, you would not regret it.

Book it. We honeymooned in 1995 and stayed in a mixture of motels plus a week at Port Orleans. Popping back for brief visits in 2000 and 2001, we always said we wanted to stay there. We finally managed it last year and it was everything we hoped it would be. The view across the lake to the Castle provides the most wonderful back drop to your holiday and the transport links are fantastic, particularly if you are in a longhouse on the TTC side.

For financial reasons, we've booked the Wilderness lodge for next year, but we'll be back one day :)

We got married in disney and stayed one night free and loved it

Why not look at renting dvc points for bay lake tower? Thats could be an option if you get mk view

Yes!!! I don't think we'll ever be able to stay at the Poly but I would love to, it's my dream resort!

The Poly really doesn't do "it" for me however the Contmporary was somewhere I had wanted to stay since my first trip at 10 years old. At the age of 31 we did it :) however there was no way I was paying rack rate for it!

We had to move our dates and couldn't get all the new dates on DVC points so we booked the Contemporary through Disney US. When the AP discounts came out we upgraded to CL and still saved over our orginal MK room. Probably would have switched resorts had we not been able to get a discount as I think they are very expensive for what they are.

We loved our Contemporary stay and I am really glad we did when we did as we have now been spoiled by DVC one bedrooms so it would have to be suite or2 rooms and we would never pay that :scared1:

As others have said you only live once - enjoy how you spend your money. We choose to fly PE because we can and enjoy it :thumbsup2 We own DVC so we can stay in resorts we love without the worry of the prices each year :rolleyes1

As others have said, if you can afford it, then book the Poly. On our last visit last month, we stayed at the Yacht Club, which we love, fab pool, fab location everything is fab.

However, we ventured to the Poly twice during our holiday for food. Both times we said we would like to stay there. The only down side for me, was the location. I like being able to walk somewhere, e.g to Epcot from the Yacht Club and around the lake. The Yacht club is also more centrally located on Disney property, in the middle for everything. Every time we went to any of the monorail resorts, it always seemed a long drive just from MK car parking booths if you get what I mean.

I does in my opinion offer the best CS options. Mango cupcakes and the stir fry.;):thumbsup2

The pool is fab and you have a beach too. Just wish we could afford it. For us next year I think it was around £1500 more than the Yacht Club. We can't even afford Pop next year sob, sob, unless we rob the vault.

As I say to my DH, who has the key to the vault, you only live once, go for it and book it.

I agree if it's something you can afford and clearly means a lot to you then you should do it. I'd always dreamed of staying at the Yacht Club and we did it for our wedding/honeymoon trip. It was a lot more than the others I'd considered but as I'd been wanting to do it for so long it really made my trip. :)

If it's what you've always dreamed of I say do it. :)

The Poly has such a wonderful 'vibe' (we've not stayed there yet but have stayed on the other 2 monorail resorts) we've eaten there a few times and really love it. I imagine the bad reviews come from that the resort is quite busy, as the lobby is pretty small, but the outside areas are lovely and the rooms looks lovely and big and well decorated.

We loved the Boardwalk, amazing location, probably a better location than the Floridian was, but there's something so special about seeing MK and the Castle from your room that I think you need to go for the Poly.

We all have special Disney places in our hearts, and it sounds to me like yours is the Poly.

Also - if you're going at a non-peak time of year I've seen deals of up to 45% off with Annual Pass rates - so that could be an option. X

Stayed at the Poly on our honeymoon and loved it. Brilliant location, monorail to MK, and you can walk to the TTC to get on monorail to Epcot.

Watching Wishes on the beach was one of my highlights.

We booked the Poly for our trip. Assuming it will be a one off trip and if not certainly a one off stay at the Poly.....

My hubby & I always wanted to stay at the Poly but it was always more expensive, so we stayed elsewhere. In 2009 when we got back off our first DCL cruise, I upgraded our 4 nights from SSR to the Poly without hubby knowing and we were not disappointed. It is a wonderful resort & we couldn't fault it. :thumbsup2

As others have said, if you can afford it then do it!! You only live once! :goodvibes
