We were not planning another trip until Jan/Feb of 2012, but with uncertainty regarding discounts for that time, we are considering Sept 2011 to take advantage of FD.

I understand I will have to put down a $200 deposit, correct? Then what? You can make payments? When is the balance due? How soon would I need to cancel if my preferred dates have a desirable discount?

Your $200 deposit is fully refundable up until 45 days prior to arrival. No cancellation or modification fees up until 45 days prior to arrival. However, vacation protection is only refundable 14 days from booking. And I have seen many cases where the vacation protection was a good thing.

From actual past experiences (yes, plural), we don't vacation ANYWHERE without some type of travel insurance. The protection through WDW is good, but if you don't want to commit or tie up your funds with a booking that far out, there are some really good travel insurance companies.

If you have a TA, ask that they check them for you. If not, use a web search engine and you'll find website with comparison/rating charts.

We have saved over $5000 in what would have been additional expense without travel insurance - and that's enough for a whole extra WDW trip and then some!
