Should I be worried?

DH, DD (5, almost 6), DS (4) and I are going to WDW (finally!) 1/14-1/21; staying at Pop. I have already booked the HDD (7:30) and the Luau (5:15) for 2 nts of our stay. The park hours are not yet available for Jan., but I know at that time of year MK has short hours. We are not renting a car -- should I be more worried about getting stranded at Poly or FW after dinner?

Note: DD will be 5 (almost 6); DS is 4.

Don't worry, WDW transportation runs for at least an hour after the parks close. And if that's not enough time, you can always take a taxi back to POP.

I can't say for the Luau but as for HDDR they have buses for each resort waiting to take you back to the hotel. There were buses for each hotel so you will be fine from Fort Wilderness.

After HDDR, there will be busses waiting at the Settlement bus stop (where Pioneer Hall (HDDR) is) to take you back to your resort. It may carry guests to other resorts also, so it will not be nonstop.

For the Luau, take the monorail. If it stops at MK, then the busses are still running. If not, take it to the TTC and switch over to the Epcot monorail. At Epcot, you can catch a bus to PC. This would take at least an hour. OR you can take a taxi for $15 and be back at PC in 15 minutes.

Thank you all sooooo much for allaying my fears -- I didn't originally give it any thought, but then, you know, the more your mind wanders....
I had completely forgotten about taking the monorail to Epcot (rather than MK) from Poly! Thanks for letting me know about the special bus at FW -- of course depending on how tired the kids are, we may have the $15 cab fare in our pocket just in case (probably well worth it!)!
