Last week I got two separate pieces of mail addressed to someone other than a resident in my home at my home address. They were parent plus loan checks. I called the university and told them this person does not live here and the lady said that is the address we have on file for so and so's mom. She told me to just send the checks back to her which I did. I also then ran a credit report on me and my husband just to make sure all was ok and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary on our reports. Now today i get another piece of mail addressed to this same lady at my address from Federal Loan Servicing. Now we are the second owners of this house and know the first and this lady is not them. Nor do I know anyone on my street with her name. I just find it all very odd and don't want to have to worry about identity theft or anything so just thought I'd post on here and see what you all think. Thanks

Did you try googling her name to see if it was just a transposition of numbers for the address or zip code? Also it could be easily mididentified street names. We lived on Lemon and so many people wrote down our street as Lime!

LOL about lemon vs lime.

I agree that I would google her name and see what comes up. About 17 years ago my husband bought a house from people with the same last name as his (it's somewhat common name). They had a son who is now about 18 and we get mail for that son about registering for selective service, voting, etc. He's not in our family so we've had to go to the PO and tell them to stop delivering his mail to us.

Thanks!! When will I learn google is my friend. I never think to do that:confused3 Anywho mystery solved it is the married daughter of the family that lived here. When I Google her a genealogy tree came out and I figured it out.

Opening mail is a federal crime. Anywho in future just x out your address and write no one resides at this address with this name on outside of envelope as well as return to sender. Then it goes back to whomever sent it and they know its the wrong address for that person. They should stop sending you mail.

I don't think it actually always goes back. It depends on what arrangement with postage the original company had. I know my postman told me if they can't send it back it goes in the trash.

haha I wish... I have lived in my house now for almost 5 years and I STILL get mail addressed to the person that owned it before us. For the first year I returned to sender... But I still get it

No, you should not be worried. The poor kid that needs that college loan, however, should be!

No one said they opened the mail. Sometimes you can tell a check is inside without ever opening.

You shouldn't ever be worried unless YOUR NAME is on the item. Having a former address doesn't have anything to do with your name.

We used to get calls for whoever had our phone number before we did. They were collections calls and they were mean.

We do get some calls from collections about DH's brother. We also get mail addressed to us with HIS bills on them! That irritates me. I have no idea how they got OUR number or address.
