Should I be worried?

My flight home from Orlando was changed from a non-stop to one with a layover. Not a big deal, but for some reason they cannot give me a seat assignment for the second flight. I have been told to get my assignment at the gate. Should I be at all concerned? Do I have to wait until then, or is there some way to get my assignment on-line?

I've had the same thing happen many times and have never had anything result other than having seat(s) assigned at the gate. I believe that the issue has to do with the airline's reservation system and possibly because a flight leg is on a code sharing partner's aircraft. I don't think that you have much to worry about, though.

Dress warmly - they may be planning to strap you to a wing :rotfl2: No, seriously - Detailor could easily be right, your connecting flight could be on a codeshare partner. Whether it is or not, all this probably means is, the preassignable seats have already been, well, assigned. You could try calling again 24 hours before THAT flight is scheduled to depart; sometimes airlines open up the 'held' seats then. Worst case, yes, you'll get your seat assignment at the gate.

Very funny!:p

I was more worried that maybe they over-booked the flights and I would end up bumped. But I will trust that you guys are right, and I will have a seat somewhere on the plane!

I would not be worried because if you do get bumped generally someone with flexibility will take that bump if they give a good enough incentive which most airlines do.

When this has happened to us in the past both times it was because the plane was pretty full and there are exit rows that need to be assigned..they needed to make sure were able to assigned to the exit row..which we were not as we had our son with us...so they had to wait until the ate to ask other passengers to switch and take an exit row.
