My DH has a little problem with motion sickness. If he's in a car, he has to drive or he feels quesy if he's a passanger. He can fly but again gets a little quesy. We once took a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and he was real green when he stepped off the helicopter::yes:: He has rode Mission Space but we had to go home shortly after it because he did not feel to well. I am so concerned that he is going to spend the whole 3 day cruise being sea sick or sleeping because he has to take Dramamine (the stuff just knocks him out). Anyone who usually has motion sickness problems do O.K. on a cruise? Please give me hope!

I have labrynthitis (a constant state of motion sickness...some days better than others). I was very worried about the cruise.

I took all the precautions...got a prescription for the patch, bought dramamine, and got sea bands. The most important thing...I didn't think about getting sick or being sick...just kept a positive attitude.

I took dramamine that morning, before boarding the ship. Felt fine...got a little queasy shortly after the ship sailed away...put on my sea bands and went to dinner. All was well.

When we met the captain, he explained that the ship runs so smoothly because there are stabilizers in the water so that you don't feel the motion...it was excellent. My hubby couldn't believe how great I felt.

OH..as far as the dramamine...I get the less-drowsy formula. Never had to use the patch, thank goodness. After reading the side effects, I was not impressed.

Good luck and have a great cruise.

I get motion sickness, especially in a car. However, I have never gotten sick on a ship and we have been on several cruises. (Carnival and RCCL) Regular Drammamine knocks me out too, but the newer "less drowsy" formula works great. Good Luck !

I get very motion sick, just like your husband I always have to drive the car. I get sick om rides and airplanes as well. you should have seen me asking the nurse at first aide for the "facilities" after getting off Space Mountain in Disney Paris, it was a hott! We've taken 3 cruises with Disney and I wear the patch and do incredibly well. I don't seem to suffer from the side effects very much and love the patch. I'll be sporting it again on our 1/3/04 cruise.

Thanks guys, that puts my mind at ease at little bit. He has tried the less drowsy dramamine on a plane ride and slept through the whole thing and could hardly stay awake long enough to walk through the airport. Hopefully he'll do fine but i'll make sure to take some medication just in case.

#1 Keep your fingers crossed!!
#2 Positive thoughts is GOOD!!
And; good luck,...

I am the one that gets the motion sickness in this crew.. We went deep sea fishing this past summer and I couldn't wait to get out in the deep blue sea to fish, :bounce:
And let me tell you, I casted out one time, in 3 seconds flat, I had me a fish and when I went to rebait, I started feeling queasy. Next thing I knew, I was on all fours, :(
Needless to say~the whole anticipated trip was wasted...

But, anyways, With me... I am taking dramamine, got a prescription for a patch for 'everyone' in my crew,
 and also bought some sea bands! LOL

The dr also told me that there is little chance that anyone would get ill, just because the ship is so big, she said that you can't really tell that your moving.
Also- our stateroom is on lower decks and she said that is a plus too! :wave2: The higher decks have more of a tendency to be moving... Where is yours located??

I'll pray for you, You pray for me!
:teeth:

Hate to be a downer but.....

My DH really does not have too much trouble with motion sickness. He reads in the car and on the plane. He does have trouble with some rides....tea cups, astro-orbiter. The 4 night Wonder cruise we took last Jan. was the pits! He was fine until the ship started to move. Less drowsy dram. did not help..at least the one pill dose. Two pills knocked him out completely. The sea bands did nothing.

On our upcoming Jan o4 cruise he's positive he won't be sick.....he's staying home.

Once you are seasick, then it takes a LOOONG time for anything to help, i.e., a day or more (which seems like eternity if you are queasy). Dramamine II/Meclazine/Bonine (all the same, just different names) seems to work well for most, but you MUST take it in advance.

And if someone tells you that you won't be able to tell that you are on a ship, take it with a grain of salt. Yes, if the seas are calm you can't tell the difference from being on land. However, encountering rough seas at some point is not unusual, and there were times that we most definitely could tell that we were on a ship! Since I had taken my meds it was actually kind of cool, but if I had not I expect I would have had a few "green" moments, myself.

Yes - this is a major concern for me also - so I take bonine and wear sea bands. I also have prescription phenegran with me.

I have always been on Deck 5 AFT - this past cruise, it was unavailable so I was put on Deck 7 MID. Felt more motion than ever and really was unhappy about the move upward - so my suggestion is stay closer to the bottom. Deck 5 is the lowest deck you can go to have options for inside, outside, verandah and navigator's verandah staterooms.

I can't ride the spinning rides and will never go on Mission Space again. I was also worried and even bought one of those Sharper Image type electronic sea bands. I ended up just taking the Bonine from outside the medical center on a preventative schedule and never had a problem.

Good Luck.

I get motion sickness pretty easlily as well. On our October cruise, I became sea-sick going in and coming out of port. I was told it was because of the gulf stream that the waters are rough during this time. I had no problem while sailing at sea.

To be safe next time, I am going to take something on the first and last day. You might want to have something handy.

I am prone to motion sickness. I wore seabands for the first two days, then took them off. We had pretty calm waters until later in the week when we had a storm one night. I wore the Sea Bands again that night, and was fine. I didn't notice the motion going back into port, as I was sleeping.

For me the worst was looking out the porthole by Parrot Cay--Oy! Glad I did that before dinner. I had no problems on the higher decks, but somehow looking out that close to the water made me feel more than a little queasy.

the patch.

My 1st cruise I got sick during the life boat drill and got worse duing the sail away. The next day I was fine.

Ever since I wear the patch and have had no problems.

I wonder if being cramped together for the life boat drill was wat really made me sick and not the boat, I am claustrophobic and they jammed me into the middle of the group.

Some mentioned the side effercts of the patch, I didn't notice any, what are they?

I'm cruising January 11 for the first time and am a bit concerned about motion sickness myself. Antihistimines knock me out so I'm guessing that even the less drowsy Dramamine will make me sleepy. But I'd rather be sleepy than pukey so I plan to take it anyway. I'd rather just take it when I "need to" rather than the whole trip. Assuming we have calm seas, are the worst times for motion sickness when you're leaving port and going back in? Is it the speed? Would it be going into any port or just in and out of Port Canaveral? Of course if there is a storm or anything then all bets are off, but I'd like to limit the Dramamine if I can.

I really noticed the movement of the ship when we left the port on the first night, and the entire last night for some reason. Needless to say, I wore my Seabands most of the time! They work great, but it helps if you remember to take them off at picture time! We took some really great family photos, and there I am wearing gray, sweatband looking things!!! They aren't very fashionable!;) Have a great cruise!

On our first cruise I didn't think I would get sick at all. I've been on small boats before and never had a problem. The first night at dinner I started to feel queasy. By the time we saw the first show, I didn't think I would make it back to the room. My DH ran down to get me Dramamine. Needless to say I spent 2 of our four days lying in bed trying to keep from getting sick.

When we went on the cruise this past June (a 7 day eastern) I was determined not to get sick. I got the less drowsy dramamine and took it before we got on the ship. It did make me drowsy, but I didn't feel any of the effects of sea sickness (althought me, my DH and our two DD's got the flu the last day of the cruise, but thats another story). I did take the dramamine about an hour before bed to combat the drowsyness, and I slept like a baby.
By morning the drowsyness wore off and still no sea sickness.

I hope this helps, Happy cruising!!!!!!:wave2:
