Should formal and semi-formal nights end?

This conversation illustrates why I will continue to ask for a table for my traveling companions, so when I am dressed up, I won't have to eat my meal sitting across from someone in their casual wear.
Maybe the previous poster is onto something when they said maybe Disney can separate the dining rotations based on whether you would like to enjoy a nice evening out, or just get something to eat.
But, I have always thought this is why the cruise lines had alternate dining options in the first place-so those people who didn't want to dress up, still could get something to eat.

A) I agree with this. The request implies something. I choose not to do it as do many others.

B) If I did everything Disney requested or suggested of me, I'd be absolutely broke.

If I did everything Disney requested that didn't involve spending more money i and my fellow cruisers would likely have a more enjoyable cruise. Don't hog pool chairs, don't save seats in the theater, dress appropriately for the elegant dining rooms, observe quiet hours late a night, don't cut in lines, don't video shows, adults only in adult areas, tip servers the suggested amount, etc. Common courtesy to most, an imposition to some.

On some ships, this is accurate. It is not on Disney. In fact on Disney it's the opposite. They have alternate dining options that cost more but you don't have to be around us common folk what ain't got no fancy pants on. In fact, I think Disney recommends you dine in those alternative, pricey restaurants.

DCL offers dinner at Cabanas -- it's where they train new wait staff. There is no up-charge, and no "suggestions" to dress up on formal night.

I love dress up night, it's the one differentiator for cruises vs any other vacation. I didn't realize that they were phasing it out on the shorter cruises and I am surprised so many would actually consider cancelling it when it is so popular with the majority of cruises and it's OPTIONAL.

This is not based on a scientific study, but is based on my personal observations of general trends in dress on Disney cruises.

1. People used to dress up more. I think this has to do with many people having only dressed up in the early days of Disney cruising, because they thought it was more of a cultural expectation among the ships' passengers than it really is.

2. People from the east coast - particularly the northeast - dress up more. I have been on a cruise departing from Long Beach (7-day Mexico) that was ridiculously casual.

3. People who work in professions that require them to dress up every day (or most days) for work are less likely to feel compelled to dress up on cruises.

4. Disney has been changing it's recommendations to keep up with customers' preferences, more so than customers following Disney's recommendations.

It is optional. By law Disney can't kick you out of the mdr unless they have a really good reason because you paid for it in your cruise. In palo and remy they can and will kick you out because you didn't pay for it in your cruise.

By law? What law? You are on private property anytime your on disney property. They can kick you out of anywhere for any reason at any time and they dont even have to tell you why. Now you may have the option of suing to recoup the cost of food for that night, but that's a civil matter or if you feel you were discriminated against but you must leave when asked. You also agree to abide by all the rules imposed in your cruise contract. There is no law anywhere that prevents any property owner from removing someone from their property for any reason. Refusing to leave when asked is a crime, however. Dont be mis-informed and get yourself in unnecessary trouble. If your asked to leave disney property, do so, take up your grievance in the civil courts later if you choose too.

Yes I know what you said. But there is a difference in saying what they will do and what they can do. They wont throw you out without a good reason but they can. My point is not to think the law is on your side in that case. Its not. Just friendly advice.

I think giving the option would be nice but if I had to make a firm vote I would say "yes" formal and semi-formal nights should end.

OMG Chipwich, cannot believe you are going on with this. We get it. You don't want to wear your big boy pants to formal night. For someone who doesn't care what other people think about what you wear, you sure seem to care what other people think about what you wear. And here's my parting shot (Texas style): dont be such an "angry elf." "There's room for everyone on the nice list." -Elf.

The above in bold is not "nice." It's belittling. This isn't the place for it. Can you not choose your words with respect?
