Should fee be charged for not cancelling ADR's?

My cell phone doesn't work in the US. :)

It still doesn't work in the US. :)

And I have also set an alarm clock, turned it out, and continued sleeping.

AT DLP, your table will be held for 15 minutes, after that, it's free for others again.

And all the other things Ron suggested dont work either?

staying on property in your room the phone has a button to press to connect with dining. At the parks a CM can cancel an ADR for you. At the hotels Guest Services the CM there can cancel for you.

Trust me, if you WANTED to cancel, you could. If you just dont care, that's fine, just admit it.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a cell phone attached to my head on vacation?

Now I'll say it....since I've been reading these boards, I've seen countless threads on things "that everyone else does." Why can't people just go on vacation and offer valuable advice instead of raking people over the coals for not cancelling a reservation. Please...let's get realistic here. Disney does not lose money over someone not showing up to eat.

We have on these boards:

1) Refillable mug Police
2) Heely Police
3) Pool Police
4) Parking Police
5) Line cutter Police

Now.....

6) The ADR Police :rotfl:

I'm sure there are SEVERAL more.

It's actually comical how seriously people take these things. It's a vacation for criminy sake! Enjoy it instead of looking around at everyone else and getting aggrivated at what someone else does or doesn't do. :)

Oh when I'm on vacation it wont bother me, my ADR's are made, and I'll bet that I'm early for everyone, or would cancel it at least a day before if I change my mind.

And all I'm trying to figure out now, is why it seems to be so darn hard for people to cancel if they arent going to make it? You dont HAVE to have a cell phone. It's almost like people are not worrying about going out of their way to cancel and basically saying screw the other people that could use those times. Maybe not people on this thread would do that now that they have so many suggestions on how to cancel without having to use your own phone.

1) Refillable mug Police

Dont really care about that one, I think it should be usable at any resort that you may be visiting, not just staying at, it's still owned by WDW. But I do find it tacky that people bring them back the next trip. But if they rules are at your hotel only, that's what I'll do.
2) Heely Police Sounds like they need more of these around, they are dangerous and shouldn't be in the parks (per the rules), if someone is seen using them, and they dont remove the wheels or leave to change shoes, their ticket should be deactivated for that day
3) Pool Police It's a rule, so it should be enforced. If you pay $400 / night for a nice hotel, it wont bother you if a lot of people from other resorts that paid $60/night come and crash your party?
4) Parking Police This the one where people want to park for free at a resort that people pay good money to stay at and use it as going to the parks? They should be towed.
5) Line cutter Police
Line cutters should be banned, period.

6) The ADR Police

Hmmm looking at all of those, it's pretty amazing how inconsiderate and blind to the rules people are. Once enough people break the rules and WDW has to change rules that make some of these 'perks' go away, dont be ticked at WDW, be ticked at the people that broke the rules and pretty much forced it.

You forgot the guests will are mad because they lost TS credits because they couldn't use it anywhere.

I can understand if you cannot call or run over to guest relations to let them know you are not coming or going to be late but please do not yell at those who feel you should.

I make my plans 3-6 months before my trip to make sure I get what I want. I have issues at two different times where I knew I was going to be late. One I was stuck on a boat and when I got off I ran over to Rose and Crown 10 mins late and they got me right in. (you are allow to be up to 15 mins late) The other was Boma. I had used Magical Express so I was depending on Disney Transportation and couldn't make it on time. I called Disney Dining and they moved my ADR back an hour.

The only things that bother me are line-cutters (and they usually get what is coming to them anyway), heelies, and people that let their kids pee in the bushes!

Believe me, if your child bumps into me on heelies, I WILL take them out!

Oh, I forgot skanks....I don't care how hot it is outside or how hot you think you are, put a shirt on over your bikini. No one wants to see your skankiness.

Good Lord...this is far too serious for me. I think people need to lighten up...it was a joke.

G'day folks! :)

Let's all be realistic, if you people really wanted to cancel an ADR you'd find a way case closed, outside of a medical emergency. I guarantee if you all knew you would have to pay a fee if you didn't cancel lack of a cellphone wouldn't stop any of you.

I keep hearing the ride broke down excuse, but how many times does that truly happen? The longest I've ever been on a stopped ride at WDW has been about 5 minutes? What are you even doing on a ride if you know your ADR is approaching? I know rides aren't breaking down for an hour at a time, because there would be threads on it on the Theme Park Board. Sorry but 3 to 5 minute delays shouldn't stop one from being on time for an ADR, especially when making them the CM asks you to take into account the travel time to get to one on time.

And this subject has nothing to do with Disney revenues, but has to do with courtesy to fellow guests! Why should I think I'm more important than any of you and tie up an ADR that I know I won't use, so that one of you who may want a table at the same soldout venue, also can't use either? I don't think it's fair.

In June of '06 I became ill in EPCOT and my wife and I went back to our room. I knew there wasn't a chance that I could make dinner that evening at Kona. My wife hit the Dining button on our inroom phone and canceled our ADR and rescheduled for the following evening. We don't think we're heroes for doing it, but atleast someone who may have wanted to eat at 6:00 at Kona that evening, now had the opportunity too.

I do agree that this thread seems to be going nowhere. Let's just all agree to disagree.

Wow, this is what they meant by the "holier than thou" Disers? ;)

There are skanks in Disney World? I've never seen them.

I posed this question earlier, but you may not have seen it. Since you're the OP and the one with the original idea to charge a fee, I am most curious about how you feel about this.

If Disney charges a fee for no shows, how long prior to your ADR would you have to call in order to not be charged?

Oh yes. Why, I was walking through the parking lot and this one lady looked perfectly normal when she got out of her car. Then all of a sudden she pulled off her shirt and *poof* skank!

One day I'm going to just go up to one and say "cover up them dirty pillows!"

I'm truely amazed at how courteous of others you appear to be regarding ADR's, yet are so condemning and inconsiderate of other Dis'ers in this thread.

I've only had to cancel one time, and I did so before I even left home. I am in total agreement people should cancel if they cannot make an ADR, and they have advance knoledge of this. If they don't, well thats none of my business, perhaps they had what they felt was a good reason. No one needs to run an approved list of excuses by you, either, so get over yourself. It's absolutely ridiculous for Disney to start charging a fee for no-shows. The very thought of it....:lmao:

I don't know why it's so darned hard for you to comprehend people being dog tired and sleeping in, or having sooo much fun on vacation they just plum lost track of time, or even forgot about their ressie they made 6 months ago. I'm sure people don't sit around thinking about how they can be discourteous to others. SOMETIMES, LIFE HAPPENS. I'm glad that your perfect, and I hope the rest of us humans don't bother you or knock you off that pedestal you've placed yourself on. Have a fantastic trip next time, and don't forget your cell phone. If you do you'll have to hang out by guest relation booths all day.

And why do they exist? Because the world is full of self-centred idiots who think the rules don't apply to them, and "!@&#$ everyone else, only I matter".

Tricia, after reading everyone's opinions I've changed some of my thinking. A place like LeCellier should definitely have a no show fee. Since they do not allow walkups ever, then the only way to eat there is to have an ADR. Some people don't know until a couple of months before if they can go to WDW and by that time LeCellier is totally booked. Why should they be penalized? If there were a fee, then all these people with life happens moments would magically be able to find a way to cancel their ADR. I believe at a LeCellier you give the party with an ADR a 15 minute grace period. If they are more than 15 minutes late without calling they get charged. LeCellier then needs to start allowing walkups also if they did this system.

Other places that allow walkups even when there aren't any ADR's available shouldn't hold the ADR with a CC.

As we all know, talk to a different CM, get a different answer. I spoke with a CM a few days ago and while making and tweaking ADR's I brought up this thread.

In summary she said:
*They do over book
*Le Cellier has gotten so popular that they don't accept walk-ups EVER.
*If 6 tables were open from no-shows, she felt that it was a grand gathering group that did not show up. Otherwise the overbooking should not have affected the restaurant so strongly.
*Other things could have caused the empty tables.
*Becuase of the popularity (NOT because of no-shows) she FEELS that they MAY require CC's to hold LeCellier ONLY. She told me to NOT take that as Disney's official word. It was only her feeling.

If LeCellier isn't accepting walk ups ever, then what good is it to cancel an hour before the ADR? I'm not saying you shouldn't cancel your ADR's, I am just asking why they don't ever take walk ups. Let's say the grand gathering called two hours before their reservation. The problem is LeCell doesn't take walk ups. The grand gathering did what they should have. They called to cancel. Le Cell had the space, but didn't choose to fill it. That's a shame.

I have personally seen Le Cellier take walk ins, both last December and last February. I had ADR's for lunch (first seating) so I checked in before the restaurant was open. Both times, several people came in and asked about walk ins. The hostess told them she would not know until 11:30 if they were taking any walk ins and how many they might take. She told them they were free to wait if they wanted. In both cases, they took three or four walk in parties names to be seated before I was out of range of the hostess desk. I saw these people seated in the restaurant. So it can happen, but it probably happens more during the slower periods and probably more often at lunch than dinner.

mickaholic, I'm sorry I am just getting to this, but I worked 16 hours yesterday and 12 hours today so as you can see I've been restricted on time.

I assumed the reason the tables were empty was because of no shows because this wasn't a section blocked off, these were tables throughout the facility. But today my wife called to make an ADR for our upcoming trip in 4 weeks and brought the LeCellier situation up to the CM on the phone. The CM stated that restaurants as popular as LeCellier also have a higher rate of no shows. The CM also said this has been an ongoing problem at the more popular restaurants. My wife brought up the point that maybe ADR's should be held with a CC and the CM said they could do it, because the system is already in place.

Hope this answers your question.

Yes it does!!:goodvibes
