Should Disney enforce Dress Code at the parks?

Ok, I just came back from WDW this weekend, after I spent 8 nights at Boardwalk Villa. The intention of this thread is not to create a fight, so I apologize in advance.

Let me start by giving some background info. I have been to Disney probably 10 times total in my lifetime (4 times with my family in the past 6 years). I am 42, so not a grumpy old man, but not that young anymore 😥.I have 2 boys, age 12 and 9.

I am originally from Brazil, born and raised, and have been in the US since 2009. If you know anything about Brazilians, you know we are very comfortable and used to people showing skin 🤣 (have you been to a Brazilian Beach? Brazilian bikini anyone? LOL).

Even for my standards, some people are going too far. I have seen super short skirts, like short enough that shows the butt cheeks without having to bend over ,and I am not joking.

I have seen women wearing literally just a sport bra and a super tight micro short to the park (literally like a bikini).
I have seen women wearing microscopic pants that are super ultra tight, to the point you can see all the anatomy of genitalia from several feet away.

I get it, it is a different world and culture, but there are a lot of children at Disney and maybe it would be better to enforce the dress code ?? I did check Disney's website and they indeed have a dress code, but I guess they don't enforce it?

From their website

"
  • Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
  • Excessively torn clothing
  • Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment"

What you guys say? have you seen what I have seen or am I just being a grumpy old man?

Cheers everyone!

My opinion, as a man much older than you..... I find it odd that you're only critical of womens' outfits..... I'd put you in the grumpy middle-aged man category!

My intention was not to dish women in general, but in terms of "showing too much", I only saw that with certain women (again, a small minority). Men usually don't dress like that, but we do not like to be fashionable at all LOL.

The problem here, is that the words "objectionable" "excessive" and "inappropriate" are all subjective. What one person find objectionable another may think is fine. What one may find excessive skin might be another person trying to stay cool. It's very hard to enforce anything when the rules/code are subjective.

If you've been to a Disney pool or water park, you'll see more skin than you're describing, including men showing skin that I really do not wish to see!

Seriously, though - there are supposed to be limits, and sometimes people do push them. I can't argue with that. But I figure there are things I can control and way more I can't, so I move along.

Disney's website and they indeed have a dress code
Then it should be enforced, pretty simple.

Other threads have mentioned other "areas" not being enforced: ie, those non paid AH guests that linger during AH.
Does the lack of enforcement mean there is reduced staffing to monitor policy?

My husband and I were there the first week of February and noticed the same things. In Epcot, a woman was wearing an actual skimpy black bra, no other top, and I was surprised that that was allowed. We were constantly behind young ladies/women in shorts with inches of the their derrière exposed. We were on the bus to MK and a young girl of about 14 was with her parents and little sister and had a really low cut shirt that I thought was going to result in a wardrobe malfunction at every bump. We are not grumpy, but perhaps old fashioned, and while some standards are subjective, we do think certain attire is probably not appropriate for Disney World.

I just try not to look.

It was nothing like this when our son was young (late 1990's-early 2000's) and this would not have been tolerated. DH has pointed out some outrageous outfits and I agree - when you can see stuff you aren't supposed to it is TOO MUCH. WDW doesn't seem to care anymore.

:crazy2:

The "not appropriate" for Disney has always been funny to me like a theme park is some sort of black tie event.

For 8-9 months out of the year you sweat in places you didn't know could sweat so wear whatever makes you confortable.

Not sure who you think is equating a theme park to a black tie event.
And I guess if someone is most comfortable in a thong bikini in the park you would consider that appropriate….

What do I think? That respectfully you focused entirely too much of your vacation on women and what they look like/are wearing.

That's not to say enforce what Disney has but that any critique you have mentioned is only about women and their body parts when we all know that for all of those women you saw there was at least some men wearing a shirt with some inappropriate message or otherwise could possibly be construed as being against Disney's policy. You may not be able to recall seeing it but that could be because of where your mind was already going on.

Also the cheeky shorts was already talked about in-depthly several years back so if you didn't notice it before that might be the answer to your question about being a grumpy old man.

Honestly I have a bigger issue with people wearing weirdly sexual shirts in the parks. I've seen them for years so this isn't a recent thing.

But tbh I don't expect Disney to enforce anything clothes related. They don't even enforce the dress code at the signature restaurants. I've seen people wear pajamas to Jiko and Topolino's.

Wearing too little is unacceptable. Wearing something offensive is at least equally uncouth. Last time we were at WDW, noticed a middle-aged man wearing a shirt with the signature Disney script/font, and that read something to the effect of ‘She made me give her the D’. Trash people are trash people.

Those are the exact shirts I'm talking about and have seen them way too frequently in the parks.

It's not my business if someone decided to wear a thong to the park just like it's not my buisness when I see people vaping around the park. If Disney want's to dicipline them or kick them out of the park then it's there policy to enforce not mine. One of my wife, and I's favorite pastime is people watching so a person(a guy would make it better) in a thong would definitely make the list.

If people would just learn to stay in there own lane and not worry about everyone else then 99% of park conflicts would go away.

That’s exactly what we experienced on our last trip in November. Been going to Disney for at least the last 15 years, and NEVER saw this much over the top/inappropriate clothing. My male traveling companion felt the same way. It’s just not appropriate to dress this way at a family theme park. I do hope Disney will start to enforce this.
