Should ADR'S Change?

I just wonder why so far into advance?
I just think 50 days for On site.
10 for Off Site
and 15 for off site but on Disney

I think it should be fewer days than 180. More like 90 days out you should be able to book. What happens is that people book many different tables as their plans aren't finalized and then cancel them nearer the time once plans get finalized.

90 days is more than enough time. With an advantage of 10 days to on property/ annual pass holders. I never overbook my dinners, but if I do a vacation far enough out that I can do them at 180, there is a 100% chance that things will change. Which means canceling and rebooking etc. And I think this is more the norm than the exception.

The current system leaves no room for spontaneous fun. I love planning, but Disney is making it very difficult to have a Family vacation that's more than running from one reservation to another.

I've still been able to change ADRs the day of. No way would getting rid of ADRs work, can you imagine having the stampede if you had to sign up day of, or the wait if they took names and made a list when you showed up?

I don't think there is a perfect system, but the current one works pretty well.

That's to some extent your choice though. I usually book one "really want" Rez. And then I play it by ear. There's tons of counter service. And there are a lot of ADR places that you can book the same day. You won't starve. It's a lot like vacationing in any major city- you can't walk in to a GREAT place on a weekend. But there are plenty of ok places if you want to wing it.

Another here who likes it the way it works. They tried moving it back to 90 days and it was not successful.

I like having ADRs but 180 seems to far out to me. 90 seems like it would be plenty. Makes people feel if the want to go to Disney they have to commit to dates at least 6-7 months in advance

I would like the ADRs to align with Disney scheduling. So if they finalize hours, entertainment, etc 30 days out (it's not even that for Star Wars fireworks) then that would be the time to open ADRs and FPs. But Disney will never do that since they're using ADRs and FPs as data to determine staffing for hours and entertainment. Chicken, meet egg.

I agree with you WestCoastWild. You can have great fun with counter service, but having to monitor your computer at some ridiculous hour to get into a favorite restaurant is getting out of hand. I have done it to get a pre-park opening for Be Our Guest bc I love planning. However, I feel for people who are on their first trip and may not be as prepared as I was. ESP since now you have to make ressies 180 days in advance. The list of things that are becoming inaccessible to last minute travelers is growing quickly.

I think signature restaurants should be booked further out, places like CRT and BOG too. I just hate trying to coordinate park days with dining with FP's. Then throw in the fact that park hours change or get extended all the time. It is definitely harder to plan now. I don't think I HAVE EVER booked ADR's 180 out. I was tweaking today for our June 12th trip. LOL

I'm planning my first trip and right now I am a month away from 180 days. I don't even know if they'll have the park hours posted by then, so it's hard to determine what days I want to make the ADRS for!?! It would be nice if they were like 60 days out then you could plan which park based on park hours, EMH and fast passes.
