Should a Disney Travel Agent become a DVC Member?

I want to know if an existing Disney Travel Agent would benefit from becoming a DVC Member. Is it a better savings just trying to book when travel agent specials are offered or will becoming a DVC member enhance the agents business and give them a better deal in the long run? Have any agents done this?:scratchin

Thanks

I know someone who owns a Disney travel company and owns DVC. Seems happy with it.

I own DVC and am also a disney travel agent. I was a TA before buying DVC. I prefer staying in a 1 bedroom DVC unit over getting a discounted rate and having to pay to stay in the same unit or in a deluxe resort.

I do occasionally use my discount to book rooms to fill in before or after a dvc stay, usually in a value or moderate resort.

I'm an airline employee and I believe we get the same discount as TAs (40%), and also a DVC with multiple contracts. I think it's much easier to book with DVC, dates are way more flexible than with the discount, and the deluxe resorts are much nicer than what I would be willing to pay out of pocket for the value or moderate with the discount. PLUS you save on taxes!! Which can really add up.

I know someone who's a travel agent (not just Disney) and sold their DVC to avoid the appearance of a slanted view.

Airline discount: my DH was told Disney no longer has an airline discount when he tried to make a ressie through Walt Disney Travel. This was fall of 2013. And we had received one several times before. Can anyone confirm? I would hate to think we missed out because agent made a mistake.

I own and I am a travel agent. I feel like I get the best of both worlds!

This may be true, I am required to upcharge each plane ticket by $20. I disclose when my customers ask and suggest they book their own. If they want to pay it I will do it, but I feel I should inform them since for most people it is $80 plus.

Required by whom?

The agency I work for, thus I tell my clients to book it themselves because I do not like asking them to fork over extra money unecessarily even though it means I lose money on commision!

Thanks, that's what I expected. I realize that the airlines stopped paying commissions and that many companies have started charging extra. I just book with the airline I want to use normally now and in years past.

We own DVC and looking to get into Disney Travel very soon. I worked for the airlines for 10 years and my husband still does and our discount was still available @40% last year.

I'm an agent & an owner. I was an owner before becoming an agent. I agree with PP it's the best of both worlds. I don't know how it works with all agencies (I own a travel franchise) but I can only get the TA discount on a room once a year. I travel to Disney far more often then that with my DVC membership. Tried out MB as soon as they were released using my DVC. Special event I've not been to but would like to be more knowledgeable about? Quick trip with my DVC. You get the picture. It works out for me perfectly.
