Should a CM told this guest to stop what he was doing

I just see an excuse to raise price again Disney does this for convince guest services and cost cutting (no cm to pay)
I can see the meeting now
“ hmm food cost (how much Disney spend to buy the food) at the counter services is up coke sales down yogurt sails(out the door) down I guess we raise food prices again “

Is it possible that the person had already asked a CM for permission? :confused3

Is it possible that the person was from another country that this might be looked upon as ok? :confused3

Just a couple of other possibilities. :cool1:

For something like this, I don't think I would worry about it. There are way to many possibilities that could have happened that you didn't see. Unless of course you watched this person the entire time and listened in on every conversation they had and at that point then I'm spooked. :wizard:

interesting that this would upset you so much. at first i thought , gosh seems like some people are being awfully hard on someone so new to the boards. then i looked at your profile:

(qoute)I forgot to ask what do you think of using your mugs at other WDW Resorts? My family & I have done that a few times at the Polynesian & Grand Floridian. Eventhough were not supost to we have never had a CM stop us(qoute)

that was one of your other posts. so the question is do you think the cms should say something?

Self-service food and drinks lends itself to customer abuse/theft, particularly if it's located past the cashier.

Disney can get rid of self-service, move it right before the cashier, hire a CM to act as "enforcer" or just accept a certain amount of "theft" as the price of doing business.

I can't imagine a CM going after soda and yogurt thieves unless Disney specifically gave them that job to do.

I agree with Sammie, it's sad that customers see the need to help themselves.

I agree

Do I think it is "wrong"? Our family would not do this, I think it is "wrong". But I bet this happens daily even at the nice GF! (Maybe he took his mug of yougurt to go with him while he pool hopped? :rotfl2: )

I tend to not pay attention to other people. If my DD is obeying the general rules of mankind and its laws that is all that matters to me. I sleep just fine at night.

Well if you ask me that information is just wrong. Ever since May of 1998 my family & I have stayed at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. Those have been the Contemporary & the Wilderness Lodge. In the summer of 1998 we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge on quite a few vacations & on that trip purchased the mugs thier & used them on future trips. Ever since January of 2000 we have stayed at the Contemporary & since that month & year we have used the excat same mugs at the Contemporary with no problem & no objection from the Cast Members. Also that rule about mugs being used for 1 trip only is a bunch of bull. My family & I will continue to use our mugs & not have to spend $11.99 everytime because we are not the only guests to use old mugs from previous vacations.

I would also classify this as stealing. Do you put yougurt in your mug every year?

Why is that people get pissed off when you tell them that you are using old mugs? You all act like that is the worst sin of all to do while at WDW?

I just want to state this. If the CM did not care about the guy using his mug for yogurt, why the hell would they care if we are using a mug from 2000? So like a lot of you said the CM don't want to bother the other guests & not ruin thier vacation so I can also use that excuse for my family & I using the Silver Contemporary mugs.

Just because a CM doesn't stop you from filling your mug with yogurt or using your mug from 2000 next week doesn't make it right. Disney has a long history of taking away perks like these because people abuse them. The mugs are presented as and understood as "length of stay."

It's sad when people rationalize things like this.

Here's a simple way to find out if what you are doing is right.

GO ASK A CM! Go right up and ask, "I purchased this mug in 2000, I've been refilling it each year without paying additional money, is this ok?" :thumbsup2

If you're afraid to ask this question it's because you know it's wrong. :rolleyes1

"Worst sin in the world?" I'm not in the business of grading sins, that's "SOMEONE" elses job, but I know it "feels" wrong. :confused3

Just because you *can* get away with it doesn't mean you *should*

Just remember you're putting CMs in a very delicate place when you challenge them in this way. They have to find the balance between "creating the magic" and "policing the schemers" and they may just take the risk and hope you'll hang your head in shame and walk away and you'll be the guest that DOES get embarrassed in a room full of people.

I still want to know why some people think using an old mug is worse then stealing yogurt & filling it up in your mug? The mugs were made for Soda, Coffee, Tea & Hot Chocolate, they were not used for frozen yogurt. Eventhough WDW says you need to purchase a new mug, how many do you think do that? So eventhough we are using old mugs we are not breaking any rules because we use the mugs for sodas. I would have thought when someone who is clearly stealing you would be more upset about, but for the life of me I don't see why people using old mugs & not buying new mugs is a bigger deal?

is the yogurt on the beverage island?if not the mug says it 's only for use during the stay it was purchased for beverage island items....so both are equally against the rules of the refillable mug program :confused3

At the end of the day CM will never say to a guest you need to purchase a new mug. There have been a lot of times when CM at the Fun & Food Center they saw me using the Silver mug & have not said anything to me about it.

I guess I am completely baffled now. Why is the guy putting yogurt in his mug worthy of you getting in a huff and starting this thread, yet you reusing your old mug is somehow okay? If you are going to appoint yourself as the Chief of the Morality Police, you had better make sure you follow your own guidelines. You have incidentally now opened up a new can of worms (but thats the whole point right?), I look to see this thread closed down very soon (but thats the point right?). And for the record, I don't think your reusing your old mug is any more offensive than the yogurt thief, I think you are both cut out of the same piece of cloth.

Hmm, I just read your profile, isn't today your 21st birthday? So I must ask, how come you are spending your birthday doing this: :stir: ??

Because I was at school today with a lot of time to kill before I go out tonight.

The other night I was telling my children about the new self serve ice cream and yogurt machines at the WL. We decided that we were going to make root beer floats using our mugs, which by the way, will be the fourth set of mugs we are buying from the WL. Then, we plan on going over to the cashier on the way out and pay for the ice cream. Should I start making signs to wear now and put them on my children stating "we will pay for this ice cream upon our exit". I guess my point is, never assume you know what is going on.

I suspect that if everyone did it, Disney would be very worried about it - and probably just move the frozen yogurt or stop selling it. But the CM who was getting paid something in the $7 an hour range (?) doesn't care. His choice is to ignore it, or have a customer go ballistic on him (which is likely if he tries to stop it). And frankly, I don't blame the CM for not being willing to be abused for as little as they get paid.

I agree ! I'm sure this CM has gotten yelled at and screemed at and abused everyday about something. I work with the public...and if you dont work with the general public you have NO IDEA what people are like ...
