We leave in 10 days and I need to start packing.
Not sure if will need pants or shorts/ Capri
Any insight
TIA
P.s we will defiantly pack sweatshirts for evening

Definitely watch the 10-day forecast on weather.com as your trip gets closer. December is not generally shorts weather for most people. Mornings and evenings will be chilly. Daytime is usually long-pants weather, but dress in layers. There may be a few warm periods (lower-70s), or it could be cold all day. It just depends on the forecast and what has blown down from the pacific northwest (or even Alaska!). California has some rain forecast for the coming week. Just keep watching those forecasts before finalizing your packing list.:)

I agree. Your best bet is to check the forecasts. I usually check weather.com or accuweather.com before traveling.

Also depends on where you come from..Illinois is colder than California,
I am from Montana and we will be packing shorts, capris and long pants (in case of rainy days) along with sweatshirts for evening because a "cold" 60 degree California day feels pretty warm when you just came from 10 below in Montana.

Also pack extra shoes if possible...It is no fun to be stuck in the hotel room blow drying tennis shoes that got drenched on a wet ride the day before.

I would pack clothes for warm and cold weather. The forecast should be able to tell you how things will be. Ive been at DL over New Years Eve on year, it was cold, we were bundled up in big jackets. Then the Santa Ana Winds kicked up and we wished we had shorts.

Thanks for the advise. It's -20 degrees here( no school for the kids) so 60 seems warm:cloud9:
I will pack both just trying to pack as little as possable since were flying.
Are hats and gloves needed at all?
The last few yr we needed them in WDW

I think if you are use to -20 then you may not need hats and gloves. :) I don't tend to use gloves (I'm a local) but I do enjoy hats. I think if it was cold and you are waiting for a show outside, gloves are nice but pockets work well too.

I hear you on packing light. It's hard this time of year. You just don't know what you will need. :)

it might just be me, but I only wear long pants when I have to (work). I am in shorts in Orange County all the time other than that. If you are coming from Central IL, I think you will find it to be short weather.

Just to put California cold in perspective for those of us from colder climates. I grew up in Cali and back then I felt much differently than I do now. January 2009 we went to Ventura, CA to visit family my son had never been to the beach so we decided to go. We spent the whole day with an entire beach to ourselves wearing shorts, built an elaborate sand castle, climbed the rocks, even went in the water (although I will admit not for long the ocean was cold) on the other hand my sister who lives in california spent much of the day in her car and when she was not in the car she was wearing boots, a parka, a sweater & turtleneck, gloves, and a hat and was shivering.

Ohhh, you are soooo right.
We moved to Newport Beach from Boston summer of 2008! We went to DL allot as we lived so close. I remember our first December in DL, we would go allot in the evening when DH came in from work and we wore shorts and t-shirts with a light sweatshirt. I was basically laughing to myself as I noticed so many guests wearing DOWN COATS, SCARFS, MITTENS, BOOTS ... I wanted to tell them what winter is REALLY like ...

Anyway, ff, we are now on our third winter (we relocated to San Diego in March) and our blood has thinned. DH & I are exactly like the natives I saw wearing all that winter attire back 3 years ago.

Also, please keep an eye on the weather. Right now and through Tuesday they are calling for off and on rain and cool temps.

I think I'm going to start packing on Monday and were going to leave on Wednesday! Talk about last minute.
I think with the weather temps looking like the 60's we may just do pants t-shirt and sweatshirt. Plus bring jackets and rain gear and extra pair of shoes.
I also thought of having a change of clothes in the car if we get soaked or cold.

Yep, it's amazing how quickly the blood thins. I moved to California in 1977, from Chicago, where I grew up. I still remember the first Christmas that I went back to spend it with family. It was in the upper 30's, hitting the low 40's sometimes. All my friends and family were ecstatic -- shirt sleeve weather! A year earlier, I would have been right there with them. Instead, I was bundled in a coat, hat and gloves; and was shivering :rotfl:

Born and raised in So. Cal. (always within 30 mins of DLR) so I am always cold here in the winter. No shorts for me in December. Even when we were 82 on Monday (yep 82 on Monday and 62 on Tuesday) I would have worn long pants. Even if it's warm in the sun, it can be cold in the shade and the sun is only out for such a short period. When we go to DLR at night in the winter we are those people who wear jackets, scarfs, gloves, and sometimes hats. ;) Brrr, so cold. We aer expecting rain for the next 5 days and it is pretty cold here now.

The weather here can change 20-30 degrees in one day so just be prepared.

I remember as a kid when my cousins would come down from Alaska for Christmas-they would be running around in shorts and we would be inside, staying warm!;)

Have fun. My DSis, DD11, and I are going on Thursday the 23rd. Hope it's not raining and hope that since all but the Deluxe AP are blocked out that it won't be too crazy! :crowded:

We've had Christmas's in shorts. We're there next week and I'm trying to stay calm about the forecast. They only seem to get it right half the time anyhow. On one end, the rain a couple years ago kept the Christmas Day crowds low. On the other, I don't want rain. :sunny:

pack layers..than you'll be set I was there in October and it was nippy in the morning until about 10 and it was cold past 5 in the evening I wore jeans and Tee shirts. Many people had on hoodies and sweatshirts in the evening.
