Shortage of points question

If you have 350 points and need 360 points for a week, can you pay on a cash basis for the 10 point shortage or do you have to borrow the points from the next year? If we buy AKV now, then 350 would cover a week in a 2 bedroom villa for a Sat-Sunday during fall travel. How ever, if CRV was offered and we bought there at some point in the future, we would probably use CRV points to book at 11 months out and use the AKV points in the summer for an additional trip. But what would be the best way to cover the 10 point summer shortage since 360 are needed for summer? Should we just buy 360 up front?

Thanks

I asked this question right before I signed on the dotted line. I was told by my guide that there are two options:
- Borrow the points if you are able to do so.
- You can pay cash for any extra days that your points would not cover. I was told that those days would be offered at a discount off of the rack rate. Sorry, dont recall the % off details.

I would stay one less Saturday on points, and if the cash discount were available pay for the night that way, or else take the one less vacation day. Especially since you do think you're going to be buying a significant number of points at another resort. Since the number of Saturday night points is more than 25 you could always add on that number if you really find that you want the Saturday through Sunday stay on points.

You can also use the rent/trade boards here on the DIS to find someone willing to transfer you some points if/when you need them. You are allowed one transfer per year, and the going rate seems to be anywhere from $10 to $15 per point. You may need to take more points than you initially think you need (because the transfer-outer(?!) wants to move all his/her points in one batch due to the one-transfer-per-year rule) but you can bank "extras" or spend another day or two at WDW :goodvibes

I would personally borrow. If you only need 10 points, you could go for 34 years before you have to skip a year.

Good Point!!! By that time I would be 72 and I could probably stand to skip a year. :rotfl2:

I agree, if you are only 10 pts short, I would definately borrow them from your next use year. Save your cash for spending money on your trip. Remember, in your home resort you can book your lodging 11 mos in advance.

I have found that to get your best bang for your points and to ensure that you are able to get the dates that you desire.
