short term rental for groceries

Thanks all. 5/6 of the family are going on this trip, college student going on break next year. We try to make sandwiches for lunch, and have most dinners at the room. So add breakfast, and I'll blow by any service's minimum. My wife and/or I are at Wegmans multiple times a week.

I never liked Goodings. It's always been pricy, and last year looked just plain dirty. I prefer the Publix off Int'l Drive near the Outlets.

Wine availability is a good thing
for us.

Of course, if WDW allowed we DVCers in on this year's free dining plan, I wouldn't need this info until next year! Ok, I feel better now.

I disagree -

1. A cab from mco to any disney resort is at least $50.00 last time I used one from the Dolphin to MCO about 2 years ago it was $56.00 plus tip.

If I were going to do this I would spring for a towncar, @ 110 round trip plus tip and they will stop at the grocery, most complimentary some for a fee.

IMHO the DME pickup time is fine- in fact when using a towncar I only save 30 minutes as the suggested arrival time at MCO is 2 hours prior to your flight. I don't think $110 plus tip is worth 30 minutes but I do like the personal service of a towncar now and then.

2. I never have a problem with the minimum at wegoshop - a case of water, 12 pack of beer & soda plus breakfast goodies, snacks and fruit cover it fine.

3. The only grocery store close enough to WDW for a $30 cab ride is goodings and they deliver for much less then $30.00.

Also want to add that wegoshop will deliver beer & wine to bell services as long as you fax a copy of your ID. They will also make sure your items are stored properly esp those that need to be kept cold.

I completely agree with the above poster about not wanting to shop on vacation. When we stay at the Dolphin I use a towncar and it just makes sense to take advanatage of the grocery stop. When we stay on property I love that DME delivers my luggage and wegoshop delivers my groceries. I can hop on the DME bus, check in and hit a park. When we get back to the room we stop at bell services and get the groceries or have them sent up to the room and the bags are already waiting.

It is true that if you grab a cab in front of a resort & have them take you to another resort or anywhere for that matter, the price is extremely high. We fell for that once, we had the bellhop grab us a cab & they had them waiting right out front or close by & they overcharge. I think it was about $20 just to go from the Dolphin to SSR & that was quite a few years ago. Now we make sure we call around & ask what the price is up front. We did that at SSR a few years ago & it was $10 each way to Winn Dixie. I've heard it's gone up a bit since then, but still not nearly $30 just to go to overpriced Goodings. We had Yellowcab pick us up right at our door, drop us off at Winn Dixie & we called when we were done & they were back again in minutes.

We typically take ME & then take a cab to the grocery store. It may not be as convenient as having your groceries delivered, but I prefer to do my own shopping. I don't mind shopping at all & it gives me a chance to check out their hot food choices, wine selections, books, t-shirts, etc. I don't want to worry about being there when they deliver, or having it stored for us if we're not there. I'm know I'm in the minority, but having to order my groceries is way more stressful to me then just grabbing what I want when I want.

Another option, that may or may not be cheaper than renting (but definitely more convenient) would be to get a towncar from someone like FL Tours or Tiffany. They offer grocery stops as part of the price, and will swing by the store on the way to your hotel.

You wouldn't have to worry about dealing with the rental, and you'd get a nice ride.
