Seems I've seen this discussed before but I don't really remember the answer.

Does there come a point in time when all points rooms that are unclaimed get turned over to CRO? Is it possible to book a room on points on VERY short notice? 1 day? 2 days? A week?

It seems to me that they would always have to have rooms available for members but maybe I'm wishing on a star. :(

I've got a hair up to do a quick weekend excursion and I could do it cash at the values but I've got some DPs burning ***** in my pocket and I'd rather use those at SSR. What are my chances?

I have booked as late as "at the airport waiting on plane to Orlando" so yes there can be rooms open.

HOWEVER, you are probably going to get SSR and/or OKW. Not likely that you will get BCV/BWV.
Weekends are better then weekdays. That may change under the new points plan!
One bedrooms are easier then studios. (I have "wasted" a lot of points for a 1 bedroom)

I am always prepared to stay at the Marriott Courtyard or some other place in Lake Buena Vista if I don't get lucky!

YMMV just depends on the time of year, late cancellations etc....

Thanks!
I will say it's a risk and probably NOT the best way to use your points. But... I tend to do it anyway LOL!

I have gotten AKV concierge calling on the day of arrival...so anything is possible!

I've been away for a while. What new points plan? Or, did I miss a joke?

Dying to know!!!

In theory all units not reserved at 2 months can be sold of by DVC but they often don't since not all rooms offered for cash will be rented anyway. It's a poor gamble trying to get rooms on points under 2 months, sometimes at 7 months or under.

Somewhere on the boards is info on the 2010 points revisions. Look for a thread with 2010 in the title and LOTS of posts.

Basically they reduced the weekend night points a little and raised the weekday to compenstate. IMHO it's not major, but.....

And to the OP, No I don't think they always have to have rooms availalbe for members!

Yep. Except I was at the ORLANDO ariport calling for a reservation after my flight home was canceled. MS was closed (pre-open 7 days) and spoke with the front desk and they found me a one bedroom (needed washer/dryer) at BWV for 2 nights until my new flight home 2 days later.

Stupid flight delays! It forced you to stay at WDW two more nights! Outrageous!
