We are heading to DL Jan 14, 15, 16. I am completely overwhelmed because of the short notice. There is a big convention there during our stay so all of the hotels nearby are booked or expensive. We are driving so I think we are going to get a hotel about 10 minutes away. Any suggestions? We are a family of four, 10 yo DD and 7 yo DS. I haven't been to DL since 1988!

We stayed at th Hyatt back in '02. It was very nice w/ a kids suite - on-site dining, pool (if you LIKE to swim in Jan!) & a shuttle to/from the parks. Target & Joes Crab Shack are nearby as well.

We chose not to stay there again because of the distance but it is a very nice hotel.

DLR has changed a lot in 20 years. Here is some food for thought on hotels:

Oh, you're going during NAMM, half of my office will be there and a few are staying to go to DL after. :)

Yes, most of the hotels on Harbor/Katella will be pricey or booked, keep checking, try expedia, priceline, orbitz, hotwire etc etc and you might be surprised at what you find.

I know! Can you believe it? The 3 days in January with a convention! What luck!

Well, just know that you might see some oddly dressed musicians at the parks and go with the flow, most of the conventioners will be at the convention so you should be good. :)

Have you tried Embassy Suites Anaheim NORTH. They are a Good Neighbor Hotel, but they are much further out than most of the Disney affiliated hotels. On the plus side they have a dedicated shuttle to get you back and forth to the park.

They have a wonderful hot breakfast, made to order. They also have a nice indoor pool.

They don't fill up as quickly and might have room still. They are also less expensive than the Embassy Suites South.

Avoid Beach Blvd in Anaheim and Stanton - sleazy! However, Beach Blvd in Buena Park (i.e. near Knott's Berry Farm) is ok.

I know you said you are looking for info on the drivable/ART hotels because of price and full hotels. However, I am a firm believer in staying in a walking hotel. Therefor, I did some looking for you.

A quick check of the local harbor hotels show just like you said, not a lot of availability or a hefty price tag. I am assuming you would be staying four nights 13-17?

Hojo show availability but not for the night of the 16th--dang that! I am a personal fan of Hojo, so I personally would book the 13-16 and keep calling EVERY day in hopes that something came open for the 16th. If not cancell within my 48 hr window and go with ther second booking I would have also made for the full 4 nights.
Tropicanna no availability
Desert Inn and Suites- $200 per night

However, have you checked out Anaheim Plaza? They are showing availablity and rates of $132 avg / night for the 4 night 2 queen beds. I have not stayed at this property, but it seems to get good reviews here on this boards.

Fairlield Anaheim also is showing availability 1/13-17
$139.00-- 2 Q city view
$149.00-- 2 Q park view

And Park Vue Inn is showing availability and rates cheeper than Fairfield Inn

I booked the America's Best Inn just North of the Howard Johnson a night. Is it really bad?

you should be willing to pay a little more for a walking distance hotel. the cost of the taxi ride(s) to and from the park will equal out any "savings" you may have by staying further out. I would book the Fairfield. It is nice and walkable.
