Some have asked 'can I get a room on short notice'? Well yesterday we booked a studio at SSR for Saturday (March 1st). So yes it is possible. Now you may not get exactly what you want, but it can be done.

It can be done, definitely. I was able to switch 3 nights for next week at SSR to 3 nights this week at SSR. Was thrilled they were able to do this for our family. :)

We were able to book a 1 bedroom at SSR for Mar 16-19 only a few weeks ago. Really just depends on what you want. SSR is our home, and this will be our first visit. :woohoo:

Yes, and you can even get something at a busy time. I say "something" because the trick is to get a consecutive night stay at the same resort.

I had a chance to go to WDW over my daughter's Spring Break, the week after Easter. Insanely busy and almost completely booked up!! But, I got a 1BR at AKV, a studio at VWL, and 3 consecutive nights in a 1BR at SSR. I'm still waitlisted for the 6th night. I waitlisted for an upgrade from the VWL to a 1BR, which came through the next day.

So, I am assured of a 1BR 5 of our 6 nights, and waitlisted anywhere for anything the 6th night. If things stay the way they are now, we will have to move 3 and possibly 4 times in a 6 night stay!!!

BUT, we get a "free" WDW vacation I wasn't expecting, and given that the waitlist has worked twice and it's only been 72 hours since I made the initial reservation, I feel pretty confident!!

Absolutely! Just booked a short notice trip today when I saw the JetBlue fare sale.

Called for anything available for check in March 5th and check out March 8th. One Sav studio left at AKV and several studios and 1 BR's left at SSR :wizard:

Took a studio at SSR (we wanted to be near the spa and DTD). It's just me and a friend for short trip, so I didn't want to spend the points on a 1BR. I had 24 points that have to be used this use year since they were banked from last year (and some points from this UY burning a hole in my pocket), so I got us a spur of the moment "wives only" trip, lol.

Wow, I went from no trip to WDW booked to a single digit dance over lunch hour today :dance3:

Last time I booked a short notice trip was last winter. Called early January for a long weekend in early February. Got just what we asked for.

For both these trips though, I definitely expected there to be limited availability, and wouldn't have been at all surprised not to get any reservation at all. But, good to know that it is possible! :thumbsup2

Yes, it can work. But don't buy depending on it working every time. I just made reservations for a 1-bedroom at SSR for April 15th for 3 nights. I was pretty surprised that they had all three days available and they were all weekdays. The CM was shocked too. She said there wasn't anything available for those dates just an hour or so before that. I believe it since I called yesterday and they had nothing in any resort for those dates. And we were open for any resort and either a 1-bedroom or a studio. Boy, am I happy! We had just decided a few days ago that we weren't going in 2008 at all. Then DH ended up getting a buisness trip to Orlando. So we changed our minds yesterday and decided to go to WDW a few days before the conference. Glad I hadn't banked our points yet! YIPPEE!!!!!!

Last week I booked a 1 bed at BW with standard view for March 7-9. Had my choice of VWL, SSR, OKW or BW. In fairness, this is a weekend date so that might make rooms a little easier to get. We wanted BW so we took it and are thrilled.

Last month we were able to book VWL for the end of Pres Week about 3 weeks in advance. We fell in love with VWL and cant wait to go back again.

Short notice bookings can happen but it is not something that I would count on as you never know when things will be booked solid or widely available.

And I think that's the point when people as "what are my chances" and people answer "slim" - or when people talk about purchasing DVC primarily for these "seat of the pants" trips. I've never heard anyone say "there is no chance at all." There is always a chance that even that first week in December at BWV Standard View room will suddenly be cancelled three days before your trip with no late date waitlist.

Its great that people have been able to be pleasantly surprised by short term availablity. It really is disappointing when you believe it will be available and it isn't.
